Open Programming Environment (OPE)
3. In the /etc/mail/mailcnfg file, set DOMAIN to your domain name and set
SMARTERHOST to the name of a gateway machine, and check that this machine’s
IP address has been added to the /etc/hosts file.
4. The /etc/mail/mailsurr file no longer needs to be modified.
/usr/lib/mail/surrcmd/createSurr is run during boot (/etc/rc3.d/S88smtp) to
auto-discover the machine configuration so that it can create a suitable
/etc/mail/mailsurr file. The system configuration that createSurr generates is stored
in /etc/mail/mailflgs.
If there is an /etc/resolv.conf file on the system, the DNS flag is added to
/etc/mail/mailflgs which causes createSurr to remove the “-N” option from smtpqer
in Part 3 of the mailsurr file. See the subsection on Domain Name Resolver Setup
below for instructions on how to set up the /etc/resolv.conf file.
If you want to turn on logging of mail through the system, add the “-l on” option to
the line containing /usr/lib/mail/surrcmd/createSurr in /etc/rc3.d/S88smtp. This
causes the LOG flag to be added to /etc/mail/mailflgs and logging commands to be
added to Part 4 of the mailsurr file. The logs generated will be stored in /var/mail/:log
and /var/mail/:errors.
If you need to customize the mailsurr file, you need to make the changes to the
/usr/lib/mail/mailsurr.proto file in order to make them permanent. Then rerun the
createSurr command.
Daily logs for smtp delivery are kept in the directory /var/spool/mailq/Logs.
Note: It is also required that the user-id in the UCARD entry of the krnl-config element
have real-time capabilities.
