Glossary
online
The state of a transaction program when it is accessible to end users for execution.
online batch program
A program that is registered with TIP through the validation table. It is scheduled by TIP,
and has access to all TIP features and capabilities. A user executes an online batch
program by entering the associated transaction code at a TIP terminal.
output message
The message that is displayed to the application user at a TIP terminal as a result of the
execution of an application program.
P
Partitioned Applications
A grouping of software features that increases system availability. In a Partitioned
Applications environment, each host acts as a backup for the other host to achieve
continuous processing.
pass-off message
A message with which one TIP program calls another and passes data for the other
program to process.
permanent TIP file
See TIP file.
position identifier (PID)
An identifier by which CMS 1100 recognizes a TIP terminal that application users can
use. The PID is the source of the input message for a TIP program and the destination of
the output message.
primitive
A subroutine that allows a TIP program to request file-access or message-handling
services from the Exec in a high-level language. TIP primitives are installed in a TIP
system file when TIPUTIL is installed on the system. TIP file control primitives provide
access to TIP databases. TIP message-handling primitives use the COMPOOL interface
to provide services to basic mode TIP programs; the MCB primitive interface also uses
COMPOOL.
R
record lock processor (RLP)
A hardware device connected to all hosts in an XTC or Partitioned Applications
environment. It is used by the hosts to coordinate and retain all database locks pertaining
to the XTC shared TIP database.
Record Lock Processor Configuration utility (RLPCON)
The software feature used to configure the record lock processor on a system. This
feature is part of the XTPA feature grouping.
recovery
The process of reconstructing files or data to a consistent state.
