“<strong>The</strong> activist Fahmi Laji was one of the Sheikh Saiid’s<br />

assistants <strong>and</strong> close to him; at the same time he was one<br />

of those who had not much regard for religious issues.<br />

When some people criticized the Sheikh for taking such<br />

a atheist person as his assistant!! Sheikh Saiid would<br />

answer: Fahmi is an atheist more than any other atheist<br />

person <strong>and</strong> he is infidel more than any infidel. However,<br />

he is a good Kurd. He would then say: if he dies do not<br />

bury him in Muslim graveyards; that it is the most I can<br />

do, other than that holding him to an account must be<br />

left to his God because He is the highest judge.”<br />

We must mention that the Kurdish nationalistic feelings<br />

were not crystallized in the minds of people, that is why<br />

when Sheikh Saiid was brought to his trial, the judge<br />

told him: why do you fight the Turkish government?<br />

His answer was far from the Kurdish cause <strong>and</strong> anything<br />

to do with <strong>Kurds</strong>. He knew how to give an answer that<br />

causes a huge effect in the soul of the Kurdish people by<br />

saying his famous words: “I fight you because you are<br />

infidels.” <strong>The</strong>se words <strong>and</strong> the way he became a martyr<br />

caused a popular uprising <strong>and</strong> the Kurdish tribes, even<br />

those who were against his revolution for a while, took<br />

to the revolution after his death. Kurdish revolutions<br />

started in all parts of <strong>Kurdistan</strong> under the control of Turkey.<br />

However, their reactions were on the individual basis<br />

<strong>without</strong> coordination, as a direct reaction to the<br />

execution of Sheikh Saiid <strong>and</strong> his comrades. That is<br />

why they all failed. On old man from those who lived<br />

that era told me once: “After the revolution of Sheikh<br />

Saiid Piran, there were Kurdish uprisings in all areas <strong>and</strong><br />

mountains, unfortunately each one was apart from the<br />

other, so there was no communication or cooperation<br />

between them, which enabled the Turks to overpower<br />
