also the attacks by the military forces of the Komele, the<br />

forces of Sinar Agha Shakak <strong>and</strong> the forces of Tahir<br />

Khan son of Simko Agha Shakak <strong>and</strong> the <strong>Kurdistan</strong><br />

Democratic Party, which was the strongest <strong>and</strong> most<br />

organised of them all under the leadership of the martyr<br />

Dr. Abdulrahman Qasimlo 1980-1989.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Kurdish Revolution in Eastern <strong>Kurdistan</strong> under<br />

the leadership of the Kurdish Democratic Party <strong>and</strong><br />

Dr. Abdulrahman Qasimlo<br />

<strong>The</strong> Kurdish people were subjected, before the advent<br />

of the Monarchy in Iran, to a host of persecutions <strong>and</strong><br />

the abjuration of their designated national rights. This<br />

suppression was not only against the revolutionary<br />

movements but also against the basic rights of the Kurdish<br />

people to freedom of expression. <strong>The</strong> Iranian Savak “the<br />

Iranian secret police” ruled in Eastern <strong>Kurdistan</strong> with an<br />

iron fist. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Kurds</strong> considered the fall of the Shah’s<br />

regime in Iran <strong>and</strong> the formation of the Iranian Islamic<br />

Republic as good news <strong>and</strong> they took to the streets in<br />

support of the new regime under the leadership of<br />

Ayatollah Khomeini. <strong>The</strong> Kurdish fighters returned to<br />

Iran, at their head Dr. Abdulrahman Qasimlo who had<br />

escaped outside the homel<strong>and</strong>. Many of the Kurdish<br />

political prisoners, such as Mr. Ghani Blourian who had<br />

served a record time of 27 years, were released of Iranian<br />

prisons. However, the local, regional, <strong>and</strong> national factors<br />

pushed the <strong>Kurds</strong> to bear arms once again <strong>and</strong> start a<br />

revolution under the leadership of the Kurdish Democratic<br />

Party <strong>and</strong> its Secretary General Dr. Abdulrahman Qasimlo.<br />

Nevertheless, at the end of the Iran-Iraq war in 1989, the<br />

persistence of numerous regional <strong>and</strong> national factors<br />
