areas by changing the Kurdish names of villages to Arabic<br />

names <strong>and</strong> thus Derek – Tel Kuchek – Chil Agha became<br />

Al-Malikia – Al-Ya’rubia – Al-Jawadia successively.<br />

<strong>The</strong>re is not enough space to mention all the racist crimes<br />

<strong>and</strong> unjust emergency laws against the Kurdish people,<br />

as even those <strong>Kurds</strong> who have the Syrian nationality are<br />

regarded as second class citizens.<br />

After implementing all their racist projects the Syrian<br />

authorities resolved to buying sick personalities of the<br />

Kurdish society <strong>and</strong> formed cartoon organizations for<br />

them allowing some of them to criticize the authority<br />

about miser issues that have nothing to do with the Kurdish<br />

cause. This was in order to control the Kurdish youth<br />

<strong>and</strong> receive monthly reports regarding their movements<br />

in exchange for wages.<br />

However, the Syrian government failed in its policy<br />

of discrimination, pursuing, imprisonment <strong>and</strong> oppression<br />

of the Kurdish people because of the heroism of the<br />

liberty lovers of <strong>Kurdistan</strong>. I mention few examples:<br />

In the beginning of 1969 I was present in one of the<br />

open trials in the state security court of Damascus, which<br />

was trying the great activist Apo Osman Sabri (19).<br />

I would like to give evidence for the sake of the truth<br />

<strong>and</strong> history regarding the heroism <strong>and</strong> patriotism of Apo<br />

as he created a heroic image reflecting the heroism of his<br />

martyred uncle Shukri Agha. As the attorney general of<br />

the state security court asked him: what sort of work do<br />

you do in the party? Apo answered him with a loud<br />

courageous voice: I am the leader of the party. <strong>The</strong>n the<br />

attorney general stood up <strong>and</strong> hit the table in front of<br />

him saying: are you still the leader (..meaning that how<br />

could you say such a thing in front of us, the poor attorney<br />
