Chapter III<br />

<strong>Kurdistan</strong> And <strong>The</strong> International Policies<br />

<strong>The</strong> line of ideological <strong>and</strong> political division of the<br />

cold war in the aftermath of the World War II was<br />

extending throughout the world as a deep trench with no<br />

hope of any bridges between the two sides!! <strong>The</strong> line<br />

was extending from Berlin <strong>and</strong> the German problem to<br />

the middle of Europe (Czechoslovakia <strong>and</strong> Hungary) then<br />

to the Balkans, <strong>and</strong> Middle East (<strong>Kurdistan</strong> <strong>and</strong> the<br />

Palestinian question), then to Asia <strong>and</strong> the struggle for<br />

the Indian continent <strong>and</strong> the Indian ocean, then to Indo-<br />

China <strong>and</strong> finally ends up in Korea. This long zigzag<br />

line had masses on both sides in constant clashing. On<br />

the one h<strong>and</strong> the United States of America was heading<br />

the capitalist system <strong>and</strong> on the other h<strong>and</strong> the Soviet<br />

Union was heading the communist system. All the other<br />

powers outside this ideological <strong>and</strong> political division had<br />

to choose where to st<strong>and</strong>. So, military alliances <strong>and</strong><br />

political coalitions were established. At the time there<br />

was some kind of deterrent preventing Saddam to some<br />

extend from igniting destructive wars. That deterrent<br />

was nuclear force. <strong>The</strong> situation changed step by step.<br />

At first there was a possibility that Saddam could cause<br />

a world war even with nuclear weapons present. However,<br />

after huge developments in the destructive force of such<br />

weapons <strong>and</strong> their transportation means, such as by long<br />

range missiles <strong>and</strong> possibility of hiding them in deep<br />

oceans by caring them on submarines or directing them<br />
