Iranian government in defence of the Kurdish people<br />

<strong>and</strong> their national rights. <strong>The</strong> Iranian authorities<br />

assassinated him in 1930 (13).<br />

<strong>The</strong> Republic of <strong>Kurdistan</strong> 1946<br />

<strong>The</strong> birth of the Republic of <strong>Kurdistan</strong> in 1946 under<br />

the presidency of Qazi Mohammed constitutes one of<br />

the important events in Eastern <strong>Kurdistan</strong>. It lasted one<br />

year because of the intricate plots attacking it from every<br />

side. <strong>The</strong> retreat of the Russian forces in favour of the<br />

Iranians in exchange of granting them the right to extract<br />

petroleum in Iran did not help much either. <strong>The</strong> American<br />

military intervention pushed the Iranian sources to the<br />

colonisation of <strong>Kurdistan</strong> once again. All these movements<br />

led to the fall of the Republic facilitated by an Iranian<br />

military move. After feeling let down by <strong>Kurdistan</strong>’s<br />

friends, Qazi Mohamed went to Teheran in order to<br />

negotiate with the Iranian authorities for a mutually<br />

acceptable solution to the Kurdish problem. <strong>The</strong> Shah of<br />

Iran welcomed him at first, but later on ordered his<br />

assassination, along with two of his accompanying<br />

ministers. This was to be the ideal solution for the<br />

colonisers of <strong>Kurdistan</strong>.<br />

Indeed, while the Republic of <strong>Kurdistan</strong> fell, albeit<br />

temporarily, the revolutions of the Kurdish people<br />

continued in Eastern <strong>Kurdistan</strong> erupting on every possible<br />

occasion. Of these, we can cite the Revolution of the<br />

Juanro Kurdish clans in the 50s, <strong>and</strong> the revolution led<br />

by the freedom fighter Faek Amin <strong>and</strong> his supporters in<br />

1967. <strong>The</strong>n there was the coup by the martyr Ahmed<br />

Tawfiq <strong>and</strong> his followers who fought the Iranian<br />
