them in one of his speeches by saying: “One can not<br />

forget the picture of that Kurdish woman hugging her<br />

child to protect him from the effect of the chemical<br />

bombs…” So, the American President asked the wounded<br />

Kurdish people to take their revenge <strong>and</strong> attack the<br />

positions of the Iraqi regime in <strong>Kurdistan</strong>. Hearing such<br />

words, the Kurdish people attacked in a flash, including<br />

even those half a million <strong>Kurds</strong> armed by the Iraqi regime<br />

itself, <strong>and</strong> revenge was taken from the Iraqi forces by<br />

driving them out of <strong>Kurdistan</strong>.. However, some of the<br />

<strong>Kurds</strong> wanted to follow up this operation <strong>and</strong> go as far<br />

as south of Iraq to liberate the Arabs also, especially the<br />

Shiites of the south, but such a thing was not included in<br />

the American plans <strong>and</strong> the American authorities could<br />

not tolerate the possibility of the Shiites taking the hold<br />

on the power in Iraq because that would have led to an<br />

alliance between them <strong>and</strong> the Iranian regime, which<br />

was the main reason for the west’s deals throughout the<br />

eight years of the Iraq-Iran war to prevent such a thing<br />

from happening. Thus the Americans gave the green<br />

light to Saddam Hussein to strike at the Kurdish advance<br />

to the Arabic south. So, he sent his planes carrying a<br />

smoke or a smoke like dust, <strong>and</strong> chemical bombs smoke…<br />

When such bombs were thrown towards <strong>Kurdistan</strong>, the<br />

Kurdish people left their areas <strong>and</strong> took refuge in the<br />

mountains on the Iranian <strong>and</strong> Turkish borders in a way<br />

that it was called the largest <strong>and</strong> quickest exodus in the<br />

history… One of the Turkish officials was quoted to say<br />

that he has previously seen the exodus of thous<strong>and</strong>s of<br />

people, but he has never seen a whole people’s exodus<br />

from their l<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> country.<br />
