In addition to that the Iraqi authorities raided the homes<br />

of Kurdish personalities <strong>and</strong> confiscated all published<br />

documents concerning the Kurdish people <strong>and</strong> their<br />

culture, <strong>and</strong> then burnt them as they burnt a lot of<br />

government documents noting the existence <strong>and</strong> rights<br />

of the Kurdish people. As soon as it was 1989 <strong>and</strong> the<br />

agreement to stop the Iraqi-Iran war was signed, the<br />

bleeding <strong>Kurdistan</strong> was left to suffer from horrible wounds<br />

<strong>and</strong> its sadness for losing so many of its young, <strong>and</strong> the<br />

ruin of homes <strong>and</strong> villages, <strong>and</strong> the destruction of its<br />

historical <strong>and</strong> cultural sites.<br />

<strong>The</strong> stopping of the war in itself caused a huge damage<br />

to the fighting forces of the Southern <strong>and</strong> Eastern<br />

<strong>Kurdistan</strong>, for the Iraqi regime was supplying the Kurdish<br />

fighters who were fighting by its side against Iran; <strong>and</strong><br />

in a similar fashion the Iranian regime was supplying the<br />

Kurdish fighters who were fighting by its side against<br />

Iraq, then both Iraq <strong>and</strong> Iran regarded the role of the<br />

Kurdish fighters as ended as the war between them<br />

stopped.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Kurdish organizations were in the state of total<br />

defeat to the extend that they failed to carry the voice of<br />

the Kurdish people regarding the massacres they were<br />

subjected to in 1988 to the outside world because they<br />

themselves had no voice or influence left… This tragic<br />

situation lasted until the year 1990 when the Iraqi regime<br />

committed the fatal mistake of occupying the State of<br />

Kuwait. <strong>The</strong>n the whole world, its armies <strong>and</strong> media<br />

stood against the Iraqi regime, revealing its crimes against<br />

the Kuwaitis <strong>and</strong> started digging up the regime’s past<br />

<strong>and</strong> its crimes against the Arab people <strong>and</strong> the Kurdish<br />

people in Iraq. When the media in the West showed the<br />

crimes of the Iraqi regime against the Kurdish people,<br />
