Consideration <strong>of</strong> additional potential heritage items
The properties at 5 Warrangi Street and 11 Telegraph Road were raised as potentially significant
heritage items yet they are not listed in Schedule 7 <strong>of</strong> the KPSO. The Committee agreed that future
investigation <strong>of</strong> these properties may <strong>be</strong> warranted by Council.
Comment
These properties are not affected by the main own centre plans and will <strong>be</strong> considered as part <strong>of</strong> the
comprehensive LEP review process.
8 MAY 2006 HAC MEETING
A num<strong>be</strong>r <strong>of</strong> comments were made at the above mentioned <strong>meeting</strong>.
Given that only seven Committee mem<strong>be</strong>rs attended the <strong>meeting</strong> several <strong>of</strong> the agenda items were
rescheduled for consideration at the next HAC <strong>meeting</strong> on 26 June 2006 where a larger num<strong>be</strong>r <strong>of</strong>
HAC mem<strong>be</strong>rs will <strong>be</strong> in attendance. The items deferred for consideration included the
confirmation <strong>of</strong> minutes from the HAC <strong>meeting</strong> <strong>held</strong> on 27.2.2006, the Ku-ring-gai His<strong>to</strong>ry Week
Pho<strong>to</strong>graphic Competition & Exhibition and the Tulkiyan Sub- committee report. Of those agenda
items discussed the following issues arose.
1. Potential Heritage Item Review
A background <strong>to</strong> the study was given outlining the work undertaken by the consultants and the
consultation through two letters with property owners included in the study. An overview <strong>of</strong> the
study findings was given in relation <strong>to</strong> the studies relationship with the current <strong>to</strong>wn centres review.
It is anticipated that a report will go <strong>to</strong> Council in June 2006 recommending that the study <strong>be</strong>
placed on informal public exhibition for a period <strong>of</strong> 28 days <strong>to</strong> allow community mem<strong>be</strong>rs the
opportunity <strong>to</strong> make comments and provide further information on the properties studied.
Following the exhibition period all submissions will <strong>be</strong> considered after which a report will go <strong>to</strong>
back <strong>to</strong> Council <strong>to</strong> acknowledge and respond <strong>to</strong> the submissions received. The potential heritage
items will <strong>be</strong> included in the new Ku-ring-gai Comprehensive LEP process, where further analysis
and review <strong>of</strong> their status and context can <strong>be</strong> considered.
2. Town Centres – Heritage Items
HAC mem<strong>be</strong>rs were provided a summary page outlining the <strong>to</strong>wn centres project and review <strong>of</strong>
heritage in the centres <strong>to</strong> date. The summary identified the five categories or ‘criteria’ used by the
consultants undertaking the project <strong>to</strong> determine how a particular building may or may not fit in<strong>to</strong>
the proposed redevelopment <strong>of</strong> the centre in question. The HAC discussed the approach <strong>of</strong> the
consultant’s review and their findings.
HAC mem<strong>be</strong>rs considered a summary table prepared for the Gordon and Pymble <strong>to</strong>wn centres and
the consultant’s recommendations for certain heritage and potential heritage items.
