identifying both positive and negative changes in bushland management. This in turn<br />

will assist Council <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> develop an understanding <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the community’s expectati<strong>on</strong>s <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

the envir<strong>on</strong>ment and particularly the bushland in order <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> help prioritise Council<br />

programs. The results from this survey have also <str<strong>on</strong>g>be</str<strong>on</strong>g>en compared <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> previous surveys<br />

in order <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> identify change in the views and opini<strong>on</strong>s <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> local residence in the<br />

management <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>wards bushland areas and how Council has adapted its approach <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

The introducti<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the Envir<strong>on</strong>mental Levy has provided funds for a range <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

projects <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> rehabilitate and manage the use <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> bushland areas. A num<str<strong>on</strong>g>be</str<strong>on</strong>g>r <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> projects<br />

have already commenced and have <str<strong>on</strong>g>be</str<strong>on</strong>g>en designed <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> cover a diverse range <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> areas <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>be</str<strong>on</strong>g> implemented in key locati<strong>on</strong>s within the Ku-ring-gai Local Government Area.<br />

Research methodology<br />

The survey was c<strong>on</strong>ducted <strong>on</strong> two fr<strong>on</strong>ts, the first was an <strong>on</strong>going <strong>on</strong>line survey, and<br />

the sec<strong>on</strong>d was a hard copy passed out at community events (refer <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> appendix 1). 161<br />

people participated in this survey answering the same 22 questi<strong>on</strong>s aimed at providing<br />

informati<strong>on</strong> <strong>on</strong> demographics, use <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> bushland, views <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>wards management and<br />

perceived changes in management strategies.<br />

The <strong>on</strong>line survey was statistically analysed with the aid <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> “survey m<strong>on</strong>key”<br />

s<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>tware. The statistics from the hard copies were analysed using “Micros<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>t Excel”<br />

and combined with the <strong>on</strong>line data <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> examine trends and correlati<strong>on</strong>s within the data.<br />
