WEED CONTROL CLASS 4 MANAGEMENT PLAN<br />

The c<strong>on</strong>trol objective for weed c<strong>on</strong>trol class 4 is <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> minimise the negative impact <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> those<br />

plants <strong>on</strong> the ec<strong>on</strong>omy, community or envir<strong>on</strong>ment <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> NSW.<br />

NAME OF WEED: Pampas Grass<br />

Comm<strong>on</strong> name: Pampas Grass<br />

Scientific name: Cortaderia spp.<br />

The above menti<strong>on</strong>ed weed is a noxious weed declared under secti<strong>on</strong> 7 <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the Noxious Weeds Act 1993.<br />

CONTROL MEASURES FOR THE WEED AS PER ORDER 19<br />

Class 4: “The growth and spread <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the plant must <str<strong>on</strong>g>be</str<strong>on</strong>g> c<strong>on</strong>trolled according <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> the measures specified<br />

in a management plan published by the local c<strong>on</strong>trol authority.”<br />

The above local c<strong>on</strong>trol authorities specify the following measures <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> c<strong>on</strong>trol this weed:<br />

All plants must <str<strong>on</strong>g>be</str<strong>on</strong>g> prevented from flowering, otherwise <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>tal removal will <str<strong>on</strong>g>be</str<strong>on</strong>g> enforced. Single plants or<br />

small infestati<strong>on</strong>s (less than 5) must <str<strong>on</strong>g>be</str<strong>on</strong>g> eradicated.<br />

Medium infestati<strong>on</strong>s (5-20 plants) must <str<strong>on</strong>g>be</str<strong>on</strong>g> c<strong>on</strong>trolled from Septem<str<strong>on</strong>g>be</str<strong>on</strong>g>r <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> April each year <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> achieve a<br />

50% reducti<strong>on</strong> in the num<str<strong>on</strong>g>be</str<strong>on</strong>g>r <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> plants per annum.<br />

Large infestati<strong>on</strong>s must have a weed management plan for the site completed by the landholder and<br />

approved by the Local C<strong>on</strong>trol Authority.<br />

Before commencing any chemical c<strong>on</strong>trol program c<strong>on</strong>tact your local <str<strong>on</strong>g>council</str<strong>on</strong>g>'s weeds <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>ficer for advice<br />

tailored <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> your situati<strong>on</strong>.<br />

All herbicide use should <str<strong>on</strong>g>be</str<strong>on</strong>g> undertaken with a registered herbicide as specified <strong>on</strong> the herbicide<br />

product la<str<strong>on</strong>g>be</str<strong>on</strong>g>l or relevant <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>f-la<str<strong>on</strong>g>be</str<strong>on</strong>g>l permit published by the Australian Pesticides & Veterinary Medicines<br />

Authority.<br />

Hand pull or dig out the entire plant with a mat<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>ck, wherever possible. Larger plants can <str<strong>on</strong>g>be</str<strong>on</strong>g> slashed<br />

with a brushcutter <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> make root removal with a mat<str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g>ck easier. Carefully remove any seed heads and<br />

securely bag <str<strong>on</strong>g>to</str<strong>on</strong>g> avoid seed spread. Dispose <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> bags in domestic rubbish service.<br />
