Steering Stem<br />

STEERING 14-9<br />

NOTE<br />

○Tighten the fork upper clamp bolts first, next the stem<br />

head nut, last the fork lower clamp bolts.<br />

Torque - Steering Stem Head Bolt : 108 N·m (11 kgf·m, 80<br />

ft·lb)<br />

Front Fork Clamp Bolts (Upper):<br />

8.8 N·m (0.90 kgf·m, 78 in·lb)<br />

13 N·m (1.3 kgf·m, 113 in·lb): <strong>ZR1000</strong>–A2 ∼<br />

Front Fork Clamp Bolts (Lower):<br />

20 N·m (2.0 kgf·m, 15 ft·lb)<br />

30 N·m (3.1 kgf·m, 22 ft·lb): <strong>ZR1000</strong>–A2 ∼<br />

NOTE<br />

○Tighten the two clamp bolts alternately two times to ensure<br />

even tightening torque.<br />

WARNING<br />

Do not impede the handlebar turning by routing the<br />

cables, harnesses and hoses improperly (see General<br />

Information chapter).<br />

• Install the removed parts (see appropriate chapter).<br />

Stem Bearing Lubrication<br />

• Refer to Stem Bearing Lubrication in the Periodic Maintenance<br />

chapter.<br />

Steering Stem Warp<br />

• Whenever the steering stem is removed, or if the steering<br />

cannot be adjusted for smooth action, check the steering<br />

stem for straightness.<br />

If the steering stem [A] is bent, replace the steering stem.
