Battery<br />

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM 16-23<br />

Battery Removal<br />

CAUTION<br />

Do not disconnect the battery cables or any other<br />

electrical connections when the ignition switch is<br />

ON, as this could damage the ECU (Electronic Control<br />

Unit).<br />

Never reverse the connections of the battery, this<br />

could damage the ECU.<br />

• Remove:<br />

Seats (see Frame Chapter)<br />

Disconnect the negative (–) cable [A].<br />

• Slide out the positive (+) terminal cap [B] and then disconnect<br />

the positive (+) cable.<br />

CAUTION<br />

Be sure to disconnect the negative (–) cable first.<br />

• Remove the battery.<br />

Battery Installation<br />

• Apply a light coat of grease on the terminals to prevent<br />

corrosion.<br />

Install the positive (+) cable [A] first.<br />

Cover the (+) terminal with the cap [B].<br />

• Install the negative (–) cable [C].<br />

Electrolyte Filling<br />

• Make sure that the model name [A] of the electrolyte container<br />

matches the model name [B] of the battery. These<br />

names must be the same.<br />

Battery Model Name for <strong>ZR1000</strong>–A1 ∼ : YTX9–BS<br />

CAUTION<br />

Be sure to use the electrolyte container with the<br />

same model name as the battery since the electrolyte<br />

volume and specific gravity vary with the<br />

battery type. This is to prevent overfilling of the<br />

electrolyte, shorting the battery life, and deterioration<br />

of the battery performance.
