John Peinstein, sales manager for Schutter<br />

Candy Co., resigned his post December<br />

31, after more than 40 years of business<br />

activity. He joined the Universal<br />

Match Corp. in 1940 when Universal purchased<br />

Candy Brothers Manufacturing Co.<br />

from him. He served as advertising and<br />

sales promotion manager for the corporation<br />

and its subsidiaries from 1940 to 1950<br />

when he was appointed sales manager for<br />

the Schutter company.<br />

Cretors popcorn machine dealers from<br />

various parts of the United States recently<br />

gathered in Chicago for a meeting with the<br />

company sales and manufacturing executives,<br />

hosted by Cretors Corp.. national<br />

sales organization for C. Cretors & Co.<br />

Dealers were greeted by C. J. Cretors, manufacturing<br />

head, and H. E. Chrisman, director<br />

of sales for the corporation.<br />

Joe Vasco, formerly manager of the<br />

Newington Theatre, Newington, Conn., is<br />

now working for a manufacturing concern<br />

in Bantam, Conn., and also is part-time<br />

projectionist at the Warner, Palace and<br />

State theatres, Torrington, Conn.<br />

A new type tapered slotting, that causes<br />

the letter to "lock" on the bar, has been<br />

developed by Wagner Sign Service, Inc.,<br />

for application to its line of colored plastic<br />

letters. This improvement, on which patents<br />

are pending, makes the Wagner letters<br />

undisturbed by even high winds.<br />

Merrill A. Watson, president of the Carpet<br />

Institute, Inc., was elected chairman<br />

of the Manufacturing Trade group of the<br />

National Industrial council for 1953 at its<br />

recent meeting in New York. The National<br />

Industrial council is composed of over 200<br />

manufacturing, state and industrial relations<br />

associates, and it maintains "liaison<br />

advisors" on NAM committees concerned<br />

with business and economic problems.<br />

Dad's Root Beer Co. has appomted Walter<br />

Sala as national advertising manager.<br />

Sala will coordinate advertising, merchandising<br />

and promotional activities between<br />

the parent company and the bottlers, and<br />

organize a more effective cooperative advertising<br />

campaign.<br />

The Perlite Institute recently named<br />

a new president and four other officers<br />

at its annual meeting in Minneapolis.<br />

Lewis Lloyd, president of Alatex Construction<br />

Service, Inc., was elected president of<br />

the institute for a two-year term. J. C.<br />

Kingsbury was elected vice-president, and<br />

three new members were named to the<br />

board of directors: Neal D. Snyder, K. J.<br />

Bercaw and Kirk E. Hazelton.<br />

Cory Corp., which recently acquired all<br />

assets of Autopoint Co., has announced the<br />

development of a completely new type push<br />

button automatic coffee brewing system<br />

which reduces the brewing and serving of<br />

coffee in drive-ins to<br />

a touch of a button.<br />

Chase Candy Co., with headquarters in<br />

St. Louis, has purchased the chocolate<br />

coating equipment formerly used by the<br />

Warfield Chocolate Co.. Chicago: the equipment<br />

to be installed in the Chase plant in<br />

St.<br />
