BSMG 1102 (Management Principles)<br />

This course is designed to give participants an underst<strong>and</strong>ing<br />

of the current business management principles <strong>and</strong> practices<br />

applicable to Canadian industry in general <strong>and</strong> the food<br />

production field in particular. This course will teach participants<br />

to develop organizational <strong>and</strong> planning skills <strong>and</strong> assist them to<br />

function as a team player in food manufacturing operation.<br />

BSMG 2104 (Policy <strong>and</strong> Law)<br />

This is an introductory course that looks at various aspects<br />

of marine environmental law at the regional, national <strong>and</strong><br />

international level. It gives the students an overview of various<br />

location, the regulatory bodies that deals with them <strong>and</strong> the<br />

interaction between these various bodies.<br />

The Policy Making Process <strong>and</strong> the Development of Laws <strong>and</strong><br />

Regulations; International Environmental Initiatives; International<br />

Environmental Conventions; National Environmental Acts,<br />

Laws <strong>and</strong> Regulations; Provincial Laws, Acts <strong>and</strong> Regulations;<br />

BSMG 2110 (Law <strong>and</strong> Environment)<br />

This is the first of two advanced level courses designed to<br />

bring together the major elements of marine law <strong>and</strong> the<br />

marine environment such that the student might underst<strong>and</strong> the<br />

importance of both in their lives as professional seafarers <strong>and</strong> the<br />

intimate connection between the two.<br />

Prerequisites - WKTM 1102 (Sea Phase I - Nautical Science)<br />

BSMG 2209 (Product Development)<br />

This course is designed to provide the knowledge <strong>and</strong> skills<br />

necessary to conduct the development of a new product. It<br />

focuses on the steps required to develop, process <strong>and</strong> package a<br />

food product.<br />

Development for the Food Industry; Phases in Product<br />

BSMG 3101 (Engineering Economics)<br />

This course covers the basic principles of engineering economy<br />

with application to engineering economic decision making.<br />

The various methods for economic analysis of alternatives are<br />

investigated as well as depreciation methods <strong>and</strong> income tax<br />

consequences.<br />

This is an advanced level course designed to introduce students<br />

in the Naval Architecture <strong>and</strong> <strong>Marine</strong> Engineering Systems<br />

Design programs to the framework <strong>and</strong> structure of Canadian<br />

shipbuilding.<br />

Introduction to the Shipyard; Framework of the Company;<br />

The Basic Work Pattern; Tendering; Design Check <strong>and</strong> Cost<br />

Estimating; Government Agencies <strong>and</strong> Ships; Specification<br />

Writing; Ship Contracts; Liability; Shipyard Planning Department;<br />

3102 (Ship Design)<br />

Stewardship)<br />

This course involves complex environmental issues, marine law<br />

<strong>and</strong> professional ethics as related to the responsibilities of the<br />

<strong>Marine</strong> Engineer employed in Canada’s Merchant <strong>Marine</strong> Industry.<br />
