FIRE 0037M Technical Rescuer (Vehicle<br />

Extrication Level I <strong>and</strong> II)<br />

Level I <strong>and</strong> II:<br />

This is a Technical Rescuer Course that introduces the student<br />

to both the theoretical <strong>and</strong> practical aspects of Vehicle <strong>and</strong><br />

Machinery Extrication Techniques. This course incorporates<br />

the Vehicle <strong>and</strong> Machinery Extrication <strong>and</strong> Core Skill (Chapter<br />

5) techniques to meet or exceed National Fire Protection<br />

Association (NFPA) 1006 professional st<strong>and</strong>ards, Levels I <strong>and</strong> II.<br />

Vehicle Extrication - Level I:<br />

Introduction to Vehicle <strong>and</strong> Machinery Extrication; Extrication<br />

Incident Management; Vehicle Anatomy <strong>and</strong> Science; Extrication<br />

Equipment; Extrication Techniques; Passenger Vehicle<br />

Extrication; Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Rescue<br />

Considerations<br />

Vehicle Extrication - Level II;<br />

Heavy Vehicle <strong>and</strong> Machinery Classification; Bus Extrication;<br />

Medium <strong>and</strong> Heavy Truck Extrication; Railcar Extrication;<br />

Industrial / Agricultural Vehicle <strong>and</strong> Machinery Extrication;<br />

Specialized Heavy Vehicle <strong>and</strong> Machinery Extrication; Heavy<br />

Vehicle <strong>and</strong> Machinery Incident Assessment; Hazards Associated<br />

Prerequisites - High School Graduation; <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong><br />

Approved Medical Clearance; Fire 0011 (Firefighter I) or<br />

Basic Firefighting Certificate; Fire 0027 (Emergency Medical<br />

Responder (80 hours); *Certified NFPA 1006 for Core<br />

* Required only for those participants intending to complete NFPA<br />

1006 core testing for Vehicle <strong>and</strong> Machinery Extrication Level I<br />

<strong>and</strong> II Certification.<br />

Duration - Classroom - 5 days<br />

Practical - 5 days<br />

Total - 10 days<br />

Please note that in addition to the 10 days duration above there<br />

will be a Complete Skills Review <strong>and</strong> NFPA Testing component<br />

to be shared among the three Technical Rescuer Courses (Rope<br />

Rescue, Confined Space <strong>and</strong> Vehicle Extrication) that will amount<br />

to another 10 days.<br />

FIRE 0038M Technical Rescuer (Rope Rescue<br />

Level I <strong>and</strong> II)<br />

Level I <strong>and</strong> II:<br />

This is a Technical Rescuer Course that introduces the student to<br />

the theoretical, practical, <strong>and</strong> advanced aspects of Rope Rescue<br />

Techniques. This course incorporates the High Angle <strong>and</strong> Core<br />

Skill (Chapter 5) techniques to meet or exceed National Fire<br />

Protection Association (NFPA) 1006 professional st<strong>and</strong>ards,<br />

Levels I <strong>and</strong> II.<br />

Level I:<br />

Introduction to Rope Rescue; Incident Planning <strong>and</strong> Scene<br />

Management; Safety; Equipment <strong>and</strong> System Components;<br />

Knots; Anchor Systems; Belaying; Rappelling; Lowering Systems;<br />

Mechanical Advantages, Raising, <strong>and</strong> Ascending Systems<br />

Level II:<br />

Rappelling Operations; Lowering Systems; Mechanical<br />

Advantages; Raising, <strong>and</strong> Ascending Systems; Tensioned Rope<br />

Systems<br />

Prerequisites - High School Graduation; FIRE 0027 (Emergency<br />

Medical Responder (80 hours); Fire 0011 (Firefighter I) or Basic<br />

Firefighting Certificate; <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> Approved Medical<br />

Clearance; Rope Rescue Level I must be completed prior to<br />

Rope Rescue Level II<br />

Duration - Classroom - 5 days<br />

Practical - 5 days<br />

Total - 10 days<br />

Rescue Techniques. This course meets or exceeds National<br />

Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1006, Level I professional<br />

st<strong>and</strong>ards.<br />

Requirements; Using the Incident Comm<strong>and</strong> System; Strategic<br />

Rescue Factors; Safety; Rescue Operations <strong>and</strong> Considerations;<br />

Air Monitoring; Ventilation <strong>and</strong> Inerting; Rescue Equipment; Team<br />

Evaluation<br />

Level II:<br />

Confined Spaces <strong>and</strong> Their Hazards; Confined Space Entry<br />

Requirements; Using the Incident Comm<strong>and</strong> System; Strategic<br />

Rescue Factors; Rescue Operations <strong>and</strong> Considerations; Air<br />

Monitoring; Ventilation <strong>and</strong> Inerting; Lockout / Tagout; Team<br />

Evaluation<br />

Prerequisites - High School Graduation; <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong><br />

Approved Medical Clearance; Valid/Current St<strong>and</strong>ard First Aid<br />

Course; Technical Rescuer Confined Space Entry Level I;<br />

*Emergency Medical Responder (40 hours) <strong>and</strong>/or Equivalent;<br />

*Certified NFPA 1006 for Core;<br />

* Required only for those participants intending to complete<br />

NFPA 1006 core testing for Confined Space Entry Level I <strong>and</strong> II<br />

Certification.<br />

Duration: Classroom - 28 hours<br />

Practical - 42 hours<br />

Total - 70 hours<br />
