ADMINISTRATION<br />

The Program will be administered by an <strong>Academic</strong> Director<br />

appointed by the Vice-President (<strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong>), together with<br />

an <strong>Academic</strong> Advisory Committee.<br />

An <strong>Academic</strong> Advisory Committee will be appointed by the Dean<br />

of Graduate Studies on recommendation of the Vice-President<br />

(<strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong>). This committee will consist of the <strong>Academic</strong><br />

Director as Chair, three members from the <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />

one member from each of the Faculty of Business Administration<br />

<strong>and</strong> the Faculty of Engineering <strong>and</strong> Applied Science. Normally, all<br />

appointments will be for a period of three (3) years.<br />

A Technical Advisory Committee consisting of a cross-section of<br />

members with professional expertise related to the technology<br />

sector, will provide regular feedback on program content,<br />

instruction, <strong>and</strong> future direction of the Program. Members of this<br />

Committee will be appointed by the Dean of Graduate Studies<br />

on recommendation of the Vice-President (<strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong>). The<br />

<strong>Academic</strong> Director will be an ex officio member <strong>and</strong> Chair of the<br />

Technical Advisory Committee. Normally all appointments will be<br />

for a period of three (3) years.<br />

PROGRAM<br />

The Master of Technology Management (MTM) is a<br />

comprehensive academic program that provides a broad<br />

underst<strong>and</strong>ing of the structure <strong>and</strong> operation of organizations<br />

<strong>and</strong> the factors that influence business decisions in the context<br />

of technology-based organizations. It provides a technology<br />

management focus through the development of knowledge <strong>and</strong><br />

underst<strong>and</strong>ing of the nature of technical operations <strong>and</strong> the<br />

factors that have an impact on their success, as well as the ability<br />

to apply these concepts within their organizations<br />

The program consists of two Options.<br />

• Engineering <strong>and</strong> Applied Science Technology Option<br />

• Aquaculture Technology Option<br />

The program is offered online <strong>and</strong> requires successful completion<br />

of either (i) 24 credit hours of course work <strong>and</strong> a comprehensive<br />

project <strong>and</strong> report (6 credit hours), or (ii) 30 credit hours of<br />

comprehensive course work. C<strong>and</strong>idates will typically register on<br />

a part-time basis.<br />

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS<br />

Admission to the program is on a competitive basis.<br />

1. The deadlines for submission of applications are as follows:<br />

• Fall (September) semester: May 15<br />

• Winter (January) semester: September 15<br />

2. To be considered for admission to the Engineering <strong>and</strong><br />

Applied Science Technology Option an applicant will<br />

normally possess a second class or better undergraduate<br />

degree from a university of recognized st<strong>and</strong>ing <strong>and</strong> will<br />

normally have:<br />

• a <strong>Memorial</strong> University of Newfoundl<strong>and</strong> Bachelor<br />

of Technology, Bachelor of Maritime Studies, or a<br />

comparable undergraduate degree with appropriate<br />

technology sector <strong>and</strong> business management course<br />

work; <strong>and</strong><br />

• a minimum of two (2) years relevant employment<br />

experience.<br />

3. To be considered for admission to the Aquaculture<br />

Technology Option an applicant will normally possess<br />

a second class or better undergraduate degree from a<br />

university of recognized st<strong>and</strong>ing <strong>and</strong> will normally have:<br />

• a post-graduate aquaculture credential or an aquaculture<br />

focus in their undergraduate degree; or significant<br />

professional experience in the aquaculture industry; <strong>and</strong><br />

• a minimum of two (2) years relevant employment<br />

experience.<br />

4. Upon acceptance into the program, students will be<br />

admitted to one of the two Options: the Engineering <strong>and</strong><br />

Applied Science Technology Option or the Aquaculture<br />

Technology Option.<br />

PROGRAM OF STUDY<br />

Masters of Technology Management - Engineering <strong>and</strong><br />

Applied Science Technology Option<br />

1. C<strong>and</strong>idates for the Master of Technology Management<br />

(Engineering <strong>and</strong> Applied Science Technology Option) shall<br />

be required to complete a minimum of either:<br />

a. 24 credit hours of course work <strong>and</strong> a major project<br />

<strong>and</strong> report (6 credit hours). Course work includes<br />

two compulsory core courses (6 credit hours); <strong>and</strong><br />

six elective courses (18 credit hours). Students on<br />

the project route will complete MSTM 6100: Project<br />

in Engineering <strong>and</strong> Applied Science Technology<br />

Management (6 credit hours).<br />
