FEES AND FINANCIAL INFORMATION<br />

The fees <strong>and</strong> charges indicated herein are as of the date of printing. The <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> reserves the right to make<br />

changes to the regulations, fees <strong>and</strong> charges listed below. Any questions concerning fees <strong>and</strong> charges should be<br />

directed to the <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> Cashier’s Office on Ridge Road in St. John’s.<br />

Tuition Fees:<br />

Tuition for Technician Diploma <strong>and</strong> Diploma of Technology<br />

programs for Canadian citizens is $173.00 per course to a<br />

maximum of $690.00 per term. International students are<br />

assessed a tuition fee of $519.00 per course to a maximum of<br />

$2070.00 per term.<br />

Technical Session fees for Canadian students are $173.00 per<br />

course to a maximum of $345.00. For International students<br />

Technical Session fees are $519.00 to a maximum of $1035.00<br />

Tuition for Advanced Diploma programs for Canadian citizens<br />

is $345.00 per course to a maximum of $1380.00 per term.<br />

International students are assessed a tuition fee of $690.00 per<br />

course to a maximum of $2760.00 per term.<br />

Students entering work terms in Advanced Diplomas <strong>and</strong><br />

Diplomas of Technology must pay a fee equivalent to the fee for<br />

one course upon registration for that work term. The exceptions<br />

include the <strong>Marine</strong> Engineering <strong>and</strong> Nautical Science work terms<br />

which are equivalent to two courses paid one time in the first<br />

work term.<br />

Tuition fees for all other programs can be obtained from the<br />

Office of the Registrar. Students sponsored by Human Resources<br />

& Labour <strong>and</strong> Employment (HRLE) should also contact the<br />

Registrar.<br />

Sponsorship:<br />

Students who will be in receipt of sponsorship by an employer,<br />

HRLE or any other agency are responsible for the payment to the<br />

<strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> of all related tuition <strong>and</strong> other fees in accordance<br />

with the fee payment policy. In cases where a sponsor wishes to<br />

be invoiced by the <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> for tuition or other fees, written<br />

notification must be provided from the sponsor on or before the<br />

day that fees are due to be paid. Such notification must state<br />

which fees, <strong>and</strong> to what amount, will be paid on the students<br />

behalf.<br />

Laboratory Fee:<br />

First year students are required to pay a non-refundable<br />

Laboratory Fee of $25.00 upon registration in term 1. All other<br />

diploma (other than MESD <strong>and</strong> NA) students are required to<br />

pay a non-refundable Laboratory fee of $5.00 at registration.<br />

Advanced Diploma students are required to pay a $250<br />

laboratory fee per term.<br />

The <strong>Marine</strong> Engineering Systems Design <strong>and</strong> Naval Architecture<br />

programs are computing intensive. Students will be provided with<br />

a state-of-the-art laptop computer starting in the second year of<br />

the program. This laptop will enable you to work on projects <strong>and</strong><br />

to access the network (Internal or Internet) 24 hours per day/7<br />

days per week for the duration of the program.<br />

Participation in this arrangement is m<strong>and</strong>atory for all students<br />

enrolling in the Naval Architecture <strong>and</strong> <strong>Marine</strong> Engineering<br />

Systems Design Programs.<br />

Students entering the second year of the <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong><br />

technology diplomas in Naval Architecture <strong>and</strong> <strong>Marine</strong><br />

Engineering Systems Design must pay a Laboratory Fee of<br />

$450.00 per term <strong>and</strong> $225.00 per session.<br />

Student Union Fees:<br />

A Student Council Fee of $30.00 (full time) or $15.00 (part time)<br />

per term is compulsory. A Provincial <strong>and</strong> Federal Canadian<br />

Federation of Students (CFS) Fee of $4.26 per term is<br />

compulsory. All fees are payable at registration.<br />

Application Fees:<br />

A fee of $50.00 must accompany each application for admission<br />

to all Diploma, Advanced Diploma, <strong>and</strong> Certificate programs from<br />

any <strong>and</strong> all Canadian students.<br />

Applicants who have attended a post-secondary institution<br />

outside of Newfoundl<strong>and</strong> or who have Non-Canadian status must<br />

include a fee of $100.00 for admission to all Diploma, Advanced<br />

Diploma, <strong>and</strong> Certificate programs.<br />

Recreation Complex:<br />

All students in Diploma, Vocational/Technical Certificate <strong>and</strong><br />

Transport Canada Certificate programs have access to <strong>Memorial</strong><br />

University’s Recreation Complex. The m<strong>and</strong>atory fee for this is<br />

$55.96 per term or $27.98 per session.<br />

Confirmation Fee:<br />

A non-refundable, nontransferrable fee of $150.00 is required<br />

from all applicants who are accepted or conditionally accepted<br />

for any program offered by the <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong>, except courses<br />

being offered by our Offshore Safety <strong>and</strong> Survival Centre. This<br />

fee ensures that you place is reserved in the program <strong>and</strong> is<br />

applied towards your tuition.<br />

In order for a student to be assigned their seat for OSSC<br />

courses, the student must pay the full amount of the course<br />

up front. If a student is 100% sponsored by either a company<br />

or a funding agency, they must provide written proof of their<br />

sponsorship <strong>and</strong> their seat will be held. If a student is not 100%<br />

sponsored, the student must pay any portion of the fees not<br />

funded prior to being assigned a seat in the training course.<br />

With 7 days written notice (prior to the start day of the course in<br />

which the student is registered) the student is eligible for a refund<br />

of all fees paid, less the $150 confirmation fee. In absence of this<br />

notice, all fees are forfeited upon cancellation.<br />
