ABC’S OF ON-CAMPUS SERVICES<br />
BOOKSTORE<br />
The Bookstore is located in the Main Lobby of the <strong>Institute</strong>, to<br />
the right of the main stairwell. Hours of operation are Monday to<br />
Friday 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.<br />
The Bookstore has all the required textbooks for the courses<br />
offered, plus other related reference material. The Bookstore also<br />
stocks supplies required by students, such as; notebooks, paper,<br />
writing instruments, binders, report covers, calculators, <strong>and</strong><br />
drafting supplies.<br />
The Bookstore offers an extensive line of gift <strong>and</strong> clothing items<br />
which carry the name or logo of the <strong>Institute</strong> such as sweatshirts,<br />
t-shirts, hats, back packs, coffee mugs, desk clocks, <strong>and</strong> pen<br />
sets. Other gift items include Newfoundl<strong>and</strong> postcards <strong>and</strong><br />
matted prints.<br />
General Refund Policy<br />
Full refund will be given on all regular merch<strong>and</strong>ise provided<br />
the item is returned within ten days of purchase date <strong>and</strong><br />
accompanied by the receipt.<br />
Text books must be in mint condition (not marked, bent, or<br />
ripped). All clothing must be in original condition (not worn, or<br />
washed, <strong>and</strong> tags attached if possible). Shrink wrapped items or<br />
tapes <strong>and</strong> CD’s must be intact in their wrapping.<br />

The <strong>Institute</strong> does not have its own child care centre. The<br />
University operated a child care facility located next to Burton’s<br />
Pond on the St. John’s campus. Further information is available<br />

A number of privately run centres are located throughout the<br />
city <strong>and</strong> may be conveniently located for some students. Further<br />
information is available from www.gov.nl.ca/cyfs/childcare.<br />
COMPUTER FACILITIES/RESOURCES<br />
The <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> provides computer laboratories to be used<br />
for instruction, course work <strong>and</strong> assignments. These facilities<br />
are fully net worked <strong>and</strong> permit students to operate all software<br />
applications required for their course work. These rooms are<br />
available during normal working hours when classes are not in<br />
progress as well as at scheduled times after hours. Printing <strong>and</strong><br />
plotting is provided on a fee per page basis, funds are transferred<br />
to the printing software using the Smart Card system.<br />
Accounts are issued to new students at the beginning of each<br />
semester. Returning students will have their accounts renewed<br />
upon confirmation of registration. Please see University Single<br />

While using these facilities, students are expected to adhere<br />
to the regulations governing computer facility usage for all<br />
individuals accessing <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> computer systems <strong>and</strong><br />
services. The regulations are provided in the <strong>Calendar</strong> section<br />
<strong>Institute</strong> Rules under <strong>Academic</strong> Policies <strong>and</strong> Regulations. Failure<br />
to do so may result in a loss of privileges or further disciplinary<br />
action in accordance to the Code of Disciplinary Procedures for<br />
Students. Violations of some policies may constitute a criminal<br />
offence.<br />
FOOD SERVICES<br />
The <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong>’s Cafeteria is located on the lower level<br />
offering a panoramic view of the city of St. John’s.<br />
The Cafeteria operates year round, offering a full complement<br />
of homemade foods at affordable prices. There is a four-week<br />
rotating menu consisting of a variety of homemade soups,<br />
salads, s<strong>and</strong>wiches, <strong>and</strong> hot meals. The Cafeteria also features<br />
new additions each semester with a focus on quality nutritious<br />
meals enjoyed by students <strong>and</strong> employees.<br />

HARASSMENT/DISCRIMINATION<br />
Members of the <strong>Institute</strong> community are expected to treat each<br />
other with respect. The <strong>Institute</strong> does not tolerate any activity<br />
which may be harassing or discriminatory or which promotes<br />
harassment or discrimination. Students who feel that they are the<br />
subject of such activity are urged to report the matter to Student<br />
Affairs. The <strong>Institute</strong> will endeavour to ensure that the matter is<br />
dealt with promptly under the university-wide policy. Students<br />
may also contact the university’s Sexual Harassment Advisor<br />
directly at 864-2015 or the Sexual Harassment Office at 864-<br />
