This course is designed to introduce the student to the various<br />

personal computer operating systems including MS DOS 6.22,<br />

This course provides the student with an introduction to the<br />

concepts of problem solving using computer programming<br />

techniques. The course will be taught using a high level language<br />

database functions <strong>and</strong> the integration of software packages with<br />

reference to relevant studies.<br />

This is an introductory course in electrical practice covering the<br />

concepts of electricity, circuit analysis, switchboards, wiring <strong>and</strong><br />

cabling, <strong>and</strong> navigation lights.<br />

Safety Precautions; The Electric Circuit; Ohm’s Law <strong>and</strong><br />

The Power Law; Cells <strong>and</strong> Batteries; Electrical Measuring<br />

Instruments; Conductor Types <strong>and</strong> Sizes; Switchboards; Wiring<br />

Cabling <strong>and</strong> Distribution; Navigation Lights<br />

This course further deals with safety in the marine environment,<br />

the development of skills required in the use of test equipment,<br />

marine electrical maintenance, troubleshooting procedures, paralleling<br />

a.c. <strong>and</strong> d.c. generators, <strong>and</strong> the maintenance of a.c. <strong>and</strong> d.c. motors<br />

ELTK 1100 (Electrotechnology)<br />

This is an introductory course in electrical theory covering the<br />

basic concepts of electricity, circuit analysis <strong>and</strong> magnetism. The<br />

laboratory work is designed to develop skills in the construction<br />

of electrical circuits, use of electrical measuring instruments <strong>and</strong><br />

reinforce theoretical concepts.<br />
