Pangeo Subsea Inc. Scholarships<br />

This scholarship, established by PanGeo Subsea Incorporated,<br />

is awarded annually to one male <strong>and</strong> one female student in either<br />

the third or fourth year of a program in the School of Ocean<br />

Technology.<br />

Captain Peter Parsons <strong>Memorial</strong> Scholarship<br />

Donated by his wife <strong>and</strong> four daughters, the Captain Peter<br />

Parsons <strong>Memorial</strong> Scholarship commemorates a Newfoundl<strong>and</strong><br />

master mariner who knew the power of both the sea <strong>and</strong><br />

education. The interest from the endowment is awarded annually<br />

to a student in either the second or third year of the Nautical<br />

Science Diploma of Technology program who is a native<br />

Newfoundl<strong>and</strong>er or Labradorian or whose parents are natives of<br />

the Province.<br />

Port of St. John’s Scholarships<br />

These scholarships were established by the St. John’s Port<br />

Corporation to recognize the academic achievements of students<br />

studying in the marine fields. Preference shall be given to students<br />

in second <strong>and</strong> third year Nautical Science.<br />

Canadian Association of Prawn Producers<br />

Scholarship<br />

This scholarship will be awarded to a maximum of 3 students<br />

who are entering the <strong>Marine</strong> Engineering Diploma of technology<br />

program who are Canadian citizens. This scholarship is<br />

renewable for up to 3 years at a value of $3000 per year.<br />

Students seeking renewal of the scholarship must remain in<br />

scholarship st<strong>and</strong>ing at the <strong>Institute</strong>.<br />

The Professional Fish Harvesters Certification Board<br />

Scholarship<br />

The scholarship is awarded to a certified fish harvester or a<br />

dependent who is entering the second year of a three-year<br />

diploma of technology program.<br />

Gerald F. Pye <strong>Memorial</strong> Scholarship<br />

This scholarship in memory of Gerald F. Pye, a former student,<br />

was established by his wife Cindy Power. It is awarded to a<br />

student in the third year of the Ocean Instrumentation program<br />

based on academic performance <strong>and</strong> demonstrated strong work<br />

ethic.<br />

Vincent <strong>and</strong> Violet Raymond Scholarship<br />

This scholarship is awarded annually to a second or third year<br />

Naval Architecture or <strong>Marine</strong> Engineering Systems Design<br />

student who has been recommended by his or her instructors as<br />

having demonstrated dedication <strong>and</strong> effort in his or her studies.<br />

The intent of this scholarship is to encourage good students<br />

though they may not be the top students in the class.<br />

The Rotary Scholarships<br />

Two scholarships shall be awarded to students entering their<br />

final year of studies. In selecting c<strong>and</strong>idates for the scholarships,<br />

the Scholarship Committee will consider academic achievement,<br />

participation in <strong>Institute</strong> activities, <strong>and</strong> the demonstration of<br />

personal qualities appropriate to the student’s chosen field of<br />

endeavour.<br />

Hazen A. Russell Scholarship in <strong>Fisheries</strong><br />

Two scholarships, the annual interest from a $25,000 trust fund,<br />

will be awarded to qualified second <strong>and</strong> third year students<br />

in fisheries <strong>and</strong> related marine technology. The trust fund is a<br />

donation by the family of the late Hazen A. Russell, who made<br />

a major contribution to the development of the Newfoundl<strong>and</strong><br />

fishing industry. These scholarships honour the memory of an<br />

outst<strong>and</strong>ing businessman whose success was due in no small<br />

measure to his commitment to quality control <strong>and</strong> technical<br />

innovation.<br />

Schlumberger Canada Limited Scholarships<br />

These scholarships, 2 valued at $2000 annually, are funded<br />

through Schlumberger Canada Limited, will be available<br />

to students in the <strong>Marine</strong> Engineering Technology, Naval<br />

Architecture, <strong>Marine</strong> Engineering Systems Design <strong>and</strong> the<br />

Nautical Science programs. Awarded on the basis of scholarship<br />

st<strong>and</strong>ing to residents of Newfoundl<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> Labrador.<br />

Scholarships will be awarded to women, aboriginals, <strong>and</strong> persons<br />

with disabilities or members of a visible minority.<br />

The Captain Michael J. Simmonds <strong>and</strong> Arthur Simms<br />

<strong>Memorial</strong> Scholarship<br />

This scholarship in memory of two gentlemen who had a long<br />

association with the shipping <strong>and</strong> fishing industries is awarded to<br />

a student in the Coastal Zone Management program.<br />

The Telegraphist Gordon W. Noseworthy, RN<br />

<strong>Memorial</strong> Scholarship<br />

This scholarship in memory of Telegraphist Gordon W.<br />

Noseworthy, Royal Navy, who died in action during the Battle<br />

of the Atlantic (1939-1945) while serving in HMS Stanley, is<br />

awarded to a third year Nautical Science student who has<br />

successfully completed the required radio <strong>and</strong> communications<br />

courses<br />

J.J. Ugl<strong>and</strong> <strong>Memorial</strong> Scholarships<br />

Valued equally at a portion of the income on the endowment, The<br />

J. J. Ugl<strong>and</strong> <strong>Memorial</strong> Scholarship, will be awarded to one marine<br />

engineering student <strong>and</strong> one nautical science student. The J.J.<br />

Ugl<strong>and</strong> <strong>Memorial</strong> Scholarship is for first-year MI students <strong>and</strong> is<br />

renewable for one year if scholarship st<strong>and</strong>ing is maintained.<br />

Xerox of Canada Scholarship<br />

Awarded to a student of high academic st<strong>and</strong>ing.<br />
