SCHOLARSHIPS AND AWARDS<br />
The Algoma Central Corporation Scholarship<br />
One scholarship is awarded annually to a student beyond first<br />
year in both the Nautical Science <strong>and</strong> the <strong>Marine</strong> Engineering<br />
diploma of technology programs.<br />
April Arnott <strong>Memorial</strong> Scholarship<br />
This scholarship was established by the human resources<br />
department at <strong>Memorial</strong> University. The scholarship will be<br />
valued at a portion of the interest on the endowment <strong>and</strong> will be<br />
awarded annually. To be eligible, c<strong>and</strong>idates must be enrolled<br />
full-time in the third year of the <strong>Marine</strong> Environmental technology<br />
program. Preference will be given to a c<strong>and</strong>idate of any age who<br />
has demonstrated academic ability, high energy <strong>and</strong> compassion<br />
to others.<br />
The Mr. Justice Fintan J. Aylward Scholarship<br />
This scholarship, the yearly interest from an endowment<br />
established by the Honourable Mr. Justice Fintan J. Aylward,<br />
Q.C., (a former Chairman of the Board of the College of <strong>Fisheries</strong>,<br />
Navigation, <strong>Marine</strong> Engineering <strong>and</strong> Electronics <strong>and</strong> of the<br />
<strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong>) is awarded to a student entering the first year<br />
of a diploma program at the <strong>Institute</strong> who has demonstrated an<br />
interest in marine law or marine safety.<br />
Dr. C. R. Barrett Scholarship<br />
This scholarship, the yearly interest from a $5,000 trust fund<br />
donated by Dr. C. R. Barrett on his retirement as President<br />
of the College of <strong>Fisheries</strong>, Navigation, <strong>Marine</strong> Engineering<br />
<strong>and</strong> Electronics, will be awarded to a deserving Diploma of<br />
Technology student.<br />
The John N. Barrett Scholarship<br />
This scholarship, the yearly interest from a $2,000 trust fund to<br />
be awarded to a deserving diploma student who plans to continue<br />
his/her studies at the <strong>Institute</strong>, was donated by Dr. C. R. Barrett<br />
in memory of his father.<br />
The Raymond Bartlett <strong>Memorial</strong> Scholarship<br />
This scholarship, the interest from an endowment in memory of<br />
a former student, is presented in alternate years to a student in<br />
second or third year of the <strong>Marine</strong> Engineering program or the<br />
MOT Engineering program who has demonstrated high academic<br />
ability <strong>and</strong> a strong sense of initiative <strong>and</strong> perseverance.<br />
John Butt <strong>Memorial</strong> Scholarship<br />
This scholarship given by the St. John’s Philatelic Society in<br />
memory of John Butt is awarded to a student continuing his or<br />
her studies at the <strong>Institute</strong>.<br />
The Ed Bowdring <strong>Memorial</strong> Scholarship<br />
The scholarship was established by the friends <strong>and</strong> colleagues<br />
of Ed Bowdring as a memorial to an exceptional photographer<br />
who has left a valuable photo record of the people of the l<strong>and</strong><br />
<strong>and</strong> the sea. This scholarship, the interest from a trust fund, is<br />
awarded to a student who demonstrates a creative use of video<br />
or still photography as part of his or her studies, or develops<br />
an innovative media-related project for the benefit of rural<br />
Newfoundl<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> Labrador.<br />
Heber Bowring <strong>Memorial</strong> Scholarship<br />
This scholarship, the yearly interest from a $5,000 trust fund, will<br />
be awarded to a student in Engineering Technology.<br />
Canadian Federation of University Women - St.<br />
John’s Club Scholarships<br />
These scholarships are awarded to women whose studies are<br />
leading to a career in a non-traditional working area for women.<br />
The Captain Lloyd Bugden <strong>Memorial</strong> Scholarship<br />
This scholarship in memory of the late Captain Bugden is<br />
awarded to a student in either the second or third year of the<br />
Nautical Science diploma program.<br />
Centenary of Responsible Government Scholarships<br />
These scholarships sponsored by the Government of<br />
Newfoundl<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> Labrador are awarded to the two students<br />
who obtain the highest marks in a three year technology<br />
program.<br />
Corey Eddy <strong>Memorial</strong> Scholarship<br />
The Cory Eddy <strong>Memorial</strong> Scholarship is named after Corey<br />
Eddy, a graduate of MI’s <strong>Marine</strong> Engineering Systems Design<br />
program who passed away in the Cougar Flight 491 crash.<br />
Annually funded by family <strong>and</strong> friends through funds raised at the<br />
Corey Eddy <strong>Memorial</strong> Golf Tournament, Scholarship is awarded<br />
to a student beyond first year in the <strong>Marine</strong> Engineering Design<br />
program.<br />
The Wayne Dalton <strong>Memorial</strong> Scholarship<br />
This scholarships in memory of Wayne Dalton is awarded to a<br />
student in the second or third year of the Nautical Science or<br />
<strong>Marine</strong> Engineering Technology Program. Preference shall be<br />
given to a student from Baltimore High School.<br />
Donald W. K. Dawe <strong>Memorial</strong> Scholarship<br />
This scholarship comes from the yearly interest of a trust fund<br />
donated by the family, friends <strong>and</strong> associates of the late Donald<br />
W. K. Dawe, Q.C., the first chairman of the Board of Governors<br />
of the College of <strong>Fisheries</strong>, Navigation, <strong>Marine</strong> Engineering <strong>and</strong><br />
Electronics. It will be awarded annually to a deserving student<br />
who has successfully completed at least one year at the <strong>Institute</strong>.<br />
Preference may be given to a student from rural Newfoundl<strong>and</strong><br />
<strong>and</strong> Labrador.<br />
Donald W. K. Dawe Scholarship<br />
This scholarship is awarded to a student who plans to continue<br />
his/her studies at the <strong>Institute</strong>.<br />
The Frank Dopplinger <strong>Memorial</strong> Scholarship<br />
This scholarship was established by the family of Frank<br />
Dopplinger former Chairman of the Fishing Industry Advisory<br />
Board, as a memorial of his contributions to the Newfoundl<strong>and</strong><br />
Fishing Industry. It is awarded annually to a student in a fisheriesrelated<br />
program based on academic performance.<br />
