FEES AND FINANCIAL INFORMATION<br />

All students are responsible for locating suitable accommodation<br />
for the duration of their studies.<br />
Locker Fee:<br />
Students wishing to obtain a locker will pay $20.00. Ten dollars<br />
will be refunded at the end of the year provided the lock is<br />
returned in proper working order.<br />
Challenge Exam:<br />
A fee equivalent to the cost of one course is payable by students<br />
applying to earn credit in a <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> course by way of a<br />
challenge exam. Further information regarding challenge exams<br />
is provided in the section regarding <strong>Academic</strong> Regulations.<br />
Late Registration Fee:<br />
The Registrar schedules the registration period <strong>and</strong> deadline for<br />
each term. Students are advised of this information. Students<br />
who fail to register before the registration deadline date will be<br />
assessed a basic late registration fee of $20.00 as well as $10.00<br />
per day for each day beyond the deadline.<br />
Students unable to register on their scheduled registration date<br />
due to a pending outcome of a supplementary exam, re-read of<br />
an exam, or verification of admission from the Registrar’s Office<br />
will not be subject to a late registration penalty.<br />
Supplementary Examination Fee:<br />
A non-refundable supplementary examination fee of $50.00 is<br />
charged for each supplementary examination that a student<br />
writes. This fee must be submitted with the application to write<br />
supplementary examination(s).<br />
Re-of Examination Fee<br />
A fee of $50.00 is charged for each examination re-read. It is<br />
refunded only if the mark is raised. This fee must be submitted<br />
with the application for examination re-read(s).<br />
Replacement of Certificate Fee:<br />
A fee of $30 is charged for a certificate replacement.<br />
Replacement of ID Card Fee:<br />
A fee of $15.00 is charged for each replacement Student<br />
Identification Card.<br />
Replacement of T2202a Fee:<br />
An administration fee of $10.00 is charged for each replacement<br />
T2202A (Educational Deduction Form).<br />
FEE PAYMENT AND REFUND POLICY<br />
Payment Term:<br />
All fees are due once a student registers regardless of the<br />
method of registration <strong>and</strong> must be paid by the fee deadline to<br />
avoid a late payment penalty.<br />
The payment deadline for students in diploma programs is<br />
the first day of lectures in the term including work terms. The<br />
deadline for students in certificate or industry-response programs<br />
or courses is the date of registration.<br />
Students who do not comply with the above may have their<br />
registration cancelled at the discretion of the <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong>.<br />
Deferral of Fees:<br />
Students who have been awarded a scholarship, bursary,<br />
Student Loan or other similar award, may be permitted to have<br />
their payment deferred until they are in receipt of the award<br />
or Student Loan. To request such a deferral, the student must<br />
submit an “Application for Payment Deferral” before the first day<br />
of lectures in the term. This form is available from the Finance<br />
Office.<br />
Finance Charges:<br />
Accounts outst<strong>and</strong>ing on the last day of examinations in a<br />
semester/session will be charged interest at the prime interest<br />
rate plus two percent per annum. Such interest will apply<br />
effective the first day of lectures in that semester.<br />
Late Payment Penalty:<br />
Except as outlined in this policy, all overdue accounts will be<br />
subject to a late payment penalty. The late payment penalty<br />
is $15.00 per course up to a maximum of $60.00 per term or<br />
session.<br />
Outst<strong>and</strong>ing Fees:<br />
Student accounts with outst<strong>and</strong>ing balances for any reason<br />
will be ineligible to register for a subsequent semester until the<br />
outst<strong>and</strong>ing balance has been paid in full by cash, certified<br />
cheque or money order.<br />
Student accounts with outst<strong>and</strong>ing balances will not be awarded<br />
diploma or certificate, <strong>and</strong> will not be issued an academic<br />
transcript of marks or letters confirming graduation status until<br />
the outst<strong>and</strong>ing balance has been paid in full by cash, debit card,<br />
credit card, certified cheque or money order.<br />
Returned Cheque Charge:<br />
A $25.00 dishonored cheque charge will be made for each<br />
cheque tendered to the <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> <strong>and</strong> not honored by the<br />
bank. A student with a dishonored cheque record must pay fees<br />
by cash, debit card, certified cheque, or money order.<br />
