NARC 3209 (Offshore Structures)<br />

This course is designed to familiarize students with how oil <strong>and</strong><br />

gas exploration is carried out offshore, provide an introduction<br />

to drilling equipment <strong>and</strong> operations <strong>and</strong> describe offshore field<br />

development options <strong>and</strong> productions systems.<br />

Conditions; Environmental Loads on Offshore Structures;<br />

Offshore Exploration – Drilling Vessel Types <strong>and</strong> Selection;<br />

Offshore Exploration – Drilling Equipment <strong>and</strong> Operations;<br />

Offshore Production – Platform Types <strong>and</strong> Selection;<br />

Transportation <strong>and</strong> Installation of Offshore Structures; Offshore<br />

This course is designed to give students of Naval Architecture the<br />

opportunity to apply skills learned in preceding courses.<br />

This is an introductory course intended for new entry seapersons<br />

of the hazards, knowledge, skills, <strong>and</strong> st<strong>and</strong>ards of safe working<br />

procedures leading to certification as Bridge Watch Rating in<br />

compliance with International Maritime Organization’s (IMO)<br />

St<strong>and</strong>ards of Training, Certification, <strong>and</strong> Watchkeeping (STCW)<br />

1978, as amended by STCW 1995 <strong>and</strong> Transport Canada <strong>Marine</strong><br />

An introductory course designed to explore the key aspects<br />

of a deck officer’s responsibility, namely navigation <strong>and</strong> cargo<br />

operations.<br />

Duration - 5 weeks<br />

Lectures - 12 hours/week<br />

NASC 1101 (Introduction To Ships)<br />

This is an introductory course designed to provide the student<br />

with an orientation to the <strong>Marine</strong> industry <strong>and</strong> the types of ships<br />

that are commonly encountered during a seagoing career. The<br />

course will provide the student with a basic vocabulary related<br />

to ships <strong>and</strong> equipment, an introduction to typical shipboard<br />

routines <strong>and</strong> an overview of lookout duties including an<br />

introduction to the Collision regulations. A detailed analysis of the<br />

requirements of the Cadet Log Book will also be undertaken.<br />
