SCHOLARSHIPS AND AWARDS<br />
R<strong>and</strong>y Emberley <strong>Memorial</strong> Scholarship<br />
The R<strong>and</strong>y Emberley <strong>Memorial</strong> Scholarship, donated by his<br />
fiancee Jeanie Sutton, is given in memory of R<strong>and</strong>y Emberley, a<br />
former graduate of the <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> who died tragically. This<br />
scholarship valued at $200 is awarded annually to a student in<br />
Nautical Science, who is a native of Newfoundl<strong>and</strong>.<br />
The Captain Bill Ennis <strong>Memorial</strong> Scholarship<br />
This scholarship in memory of Captain William (Bill) Ennis, a<br />
<strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> faculty member <strong>and</strong> prominent Newfoundl<strong>and</strong><br />
fishing captain, is given to a student in the Bachelor of Maritime<br />
Studies program who has completed the Nautical Science<br />
diploma program at the <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong><br />
ESRI Canada GIS Scholarship<br />
The ESRI Canada GIS Scholarship is a national scholarship<br />
given by ESRI Canada recognizing MI for a strong,<br />
multidisciplinary focus on Geographic Information Systems (GIS)<br />
in MI’s new Joint Diploma/Degree in Ocean Mapping.<br />
Charles Evans <strong>Memorial</strong> Scholarship<br />
This scholarship, the yearly interest from an endowment by<br />
the family of Charles Evans, a former student of the <strong>Marine</strong><br />
<strong>Institute</strong>, is awarded to a student in Nautical Science, upon the<br />
recommendations of the Head of the School of Maritime Studies.<br />
Fish, Food <strong>and</strong> Allied Workers Scholarships<br />
These scholarships are awarded to first year Food Technology<br />
students based on entrance average.<br />
Friends of India Association Scholarship<br />
Awarded annually to the student with the highest average in the<br />
institute by the Friends of India Association.<br />
Flight 491 Legacy Scholarships<br />
This scholarship is the yearly interest from an endowment thanks<br />
to investment from the Newfoundl<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> Labrador Oil <strong>and</strong><br />
Gas Industries (NOIA), The Canadian Association of Petroleum<br />
Producers (CAPP), <strong>and</strong> the St. John’s Oil Field Technical Society<br />
(OTS). Awarded to a student in the first year of a Diploma of<br />
Technology program.<br />
Flotilla ‘97 Legacy Scholarship<br />
This scholarship, the legacy of the 1997 flotilla to commemorate<br />
the 500th Anniversary of Cabot’s voyage, is presented to<br />
a student entering the Bachelor of Technology Program.<br />
Preference shall be given to students from <strong>Marine</strong> Environmental<br />
Technology.<br />
The Fry Family Foundation <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong><br />
Bachelor of Technology/Maritime Studies Leadership<br />
Scholarship<br />
These scholarships are awarded to Newfoundl<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />
Labrador students entering either the Bachelor of Technology<br />
or the Bachelor of Maritime Studies program who have shown<br />
leadership in various community organizations while maintaining<br />
a strong academic performance. These scholarships are<br />
awarded by the <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> Scholarship Committee.<br />
The Fry Family Foundation <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> Diploma<br />
of Technology Entrance Leadership Scholarship<br />
These scholarships are awarded to Newfoundl<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> Labrador<br />
students entering diploma of technology programs who have<br />
shown leadership in various community organizations while<br />
maintaining a strong academic performance. These scholarships<br />
are awarded by the <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> Scholarship Committee.<br />
The Hector <strong>and</strong> Sybil Green <strong>Memorial</strong> Scholarship<br />
The Hector <strong>and</strong> Sybil Green <strong>Memorial</strong> Scholarship was established<br />
by the Green family as a memorial to two people who had a longtime<br />
association with the fishery <strong>and</strong> who appreciated the value<br />
of education. It is awarded annually to a student in the <strong>Marine</strong><br />
Diesel Mechanics program, who is not receiving other forms of<br />
financial assistance <strong>and</strong> is based upon academic performance<br />
<strong>and</strong> the recommendation of the selection committee.<br />
Sidney Hann <strong>Memorial</strong> Scholarship<br />
In memory of Sidney Hann a <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> graduate <strong>and</strong><br />
pioneer of the provincial <strong>and</strong> national fishery industry. The Sidney<br />
Hann <strong>Memorial</strong> Scholarship will be given annually to a full-time<br />
Newfoundl<strong>and</strong> student enrolled in a program within the School of<br />
<strong>Fisheries</strong> at the <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong>.<br />
Rose Hatfield Healthy Living Bursary<br />
The Rose Hatfield Healthy Living Bursary is to be awarded<br />
annually to a student who demonstrates a high level of academic<br />
ability <strong>and</strong> dedication to healthy living. The bursary is in honour<br />
of Rose Hatfield, a recreation specialist at MI who has been<br />
committed to healthy living for over 25 years via her position<br />
at the <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> <strong>and</strong> her involvement in activities across<br />
Newfoundl<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> Labrador.<br />
The Harvey Head <strong>Memorial</strong> Scholarship<br />
This scholarship is presented to a full-time student entering the<br />
Bachelor of Technology program who has graduated from the<br />
Electrical Engineering program at either the <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong>,<br />
Cabot College, or College of the North Atlantic <strong>and</strong> who has<br />
maintained a minimum of 70% average throughout the diploma<br />
program.<br />
The Kjell Henriksen Scholarships<br />
Two scholarships donated by the widow of the late President of<br />
the Canadian Saltfish Corporation, in memory of her husb<strong>and</strong>,<br />
awarded annually to second <strong>and</strong> third-year diploma students <strong>and</strong><br />
advanced diploma students in the School of <strong>Fisheries</strong> who are<br />
the sons <strong>and</strong> daughters of native-born Newfoundl<strong>and</strong>ers.<br />
The Hibernia Management <strong>and</strong> Development<br />
Company Ltd. Scholarships<br />
These scholarships shall be awarded annually to one male<br />
<strong>and</strong> one female student in either the second or third year of the<br />
<strong>Marine</strong> Environmental Engineering Technology program.<br />
The Dale Howse <strong>Memorial</strong> Scholarship<br />
This scholarship is awarded to a student in a diploma of technology<br />
program who has demonstrated exceptional commitment to<br />
helping other students. It is based on the recommendation of the<br />
selection committee.<br />
