ADMISSION TO THE MARINE INSTITUTE<br />

1. APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION<br />

1.1 Non-Degree Programs<br />

A <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> Application for Admission is required for all<br />

<strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> non-degree programs. An application fee of<br />

$50 (plus an additional $50 fee for international applicants <strong>and</strong><br />

applicants transferring from a college <strong>and</strong>/or university outside of<br />

Newfoundl<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> Labrador), must accompany each application.<br />

The documents required for determination of eligibility for<br />

admission to each <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> program are listed in the<br />

appropriate area of the <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> Application for Admission,<br />

as well as in the Admission Requirements section of this calendar.<br />

An application is considered to be complete only upon receipt of<br />

all required documents <strong>and</strong> application fees.<br />

Copies submitted by applicants will not be<br />

considered official documents.<br />

The application deadline for Fall term admission is April 15th for<br />

Canadian applicants <strong>and</strong> April 1st for International applicants.<br />

However, applications received after deadlines will be<br />

considered on an individual basis up to the beginning of<br />

each semester or program. However, early application is<br />

recommended as limited resources <strong>and</strong> facilities may limit<br />

enrolment.<br />

Applicants should note that all documents (including transcripts)<br />

used for admission purposes become the property of the <strong>Marine</strong><br />

<strong>Institute</strong> <strong>and</strong> are not returned to the applicant. Documents<br />

submitted by applicants who are not accepted, or who do not<br />

attend, are retained for one year after which time they are<br />

destroyed.<br />

The <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> reserves the right to refuse admission to any<br />

1.2 Bachelor Degree Programs<br />

Applicants seeking admission or re-admission to the Bachelor<br />

of Maritime Studies or Bachelor of Technology programs of<br />

the <strong>Fisheries</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> of <strong>Memorial</strong> University of<br />

Newfoundl<strong>and</strong> are required to apply for general admission to<br />

<strong>Memorial</strong> University of Newfoundl<strong>and</strong>. A separate application is<br />

also required for admission to the degree program of their choice.<br />

Applicants should consult the <strong>Memorial</strong> University <strong>Calendar</strong><br />

<strong>and</strong> refer to the Regulations Governing Admission/Readmission<br />

to <strong>Memorial</strong> University as well as to the <strong>Fisheries</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Marine</strong><br />

<strong>Institute</strong> section of the <strong>Memorial</strong> University <strong>Calendar</strong> for the<br />

regulations governing each program.<br />

If the applicant has attended <strong>Memorial</strong> University or the <strong>Marine</strong><br />

<strong>Institute</strong> during either of the previous two semesters, a General<br />

<strong>Memorial</strong> University Application for Admission is not required.<br />

Students who are currently completing work at post-secondary<br />

institutions other than the <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> or <strong>Memorial</strong> University<br />

are required to supply official transcripts of this work. Transcripts<br />

should be submitted by the appropriate institution directly to the<br />

1.3 Master’s Degree Programs<br />

Applicants for the Master in <strong>Marine</strong> Studies (<strong>Fisheries</strong> Resource<br />

Management), Master of Maritime Management (MMM) <strong>and</strong><br />

Master of Technology Management (MTM) programs must apply<br />

for admission through <strong>Memorial</strong> University’s School of Graduate<br />

Studies. Information concerning application procedures can be<br />

obtained from the <strong>Memorial</strong> University <strong>Calendar</strong>.<br />
