CHAPTER 8: Customizing Page Elements Changing Appearance Properties The Appearance tab of the Properties pane (shown in Figure 8-3 on page 198) lets you set an element's background, border, and opacity, as well as add a reflection or shadow to the element. Figure 8-3: The Appearance tab of the Properties pane. Changing the Background To change the element's background, choose Color, Linear Gradient, Image Fill, or None in the Background drop-down menu. Choosing None specifies no background color, gradient, or image (for example, if you already selected a color, gradient, or image, select None to delete it). Color To set the background to a solid color: 1. Choose Color from the Background drop-down menu. The HTML color code box appears underneath the Background drop-down menu, showing the HTML code for white (#FFFFFF), as shown in Figure 8-3 on page 198. You can enter the color's HTML code in the box, or continue with these steps to pick the color.. 2. Click inside the HTML color code box. The color picker appears in the Properties pane, as shown in Figure 8-4 on page 199. - 198 -

Drag the slider on the right side of the color picker to adjust the color component value (from saturated to black). Linear Gradient To set the background to a linear gradient of colors: 1. Choose Linear Gradient from the Background drop-down menu. A gradient line appears underneath the Background menu, as shown in Figure 8-5 on page 200. 2.
