5ml User's Guide About Shape Widgets 5ml includes several Shape widgets to create page elements in your project: • Rectangle widget: Creates a rectangle. You can change the element's appearance and its layout on the page. • Ellipsis widget: Creates an elliptical shape such as a circle or oval. You can change the element's appearance and its layout on the page. • Triangle widget: Creates a triangle. You can change the element's appearance and its layout on the page. Click the Widgets tab at the top of the Library pane to show the Widgets pane. You can then select Shapes in the dropdown menu to see the Rectangle, Ellipsis, and Triangle widgets (or select All in the pop-up menu to see all widgets). Figure 10-1: Selecting the Shapes widgets. To create an element on the page from a widget, drag the widget from the Widgets pane to the Canvas. You can then resize, align, and arrange the element to fit your page design (for details, see "Working in the Project Editor" on page 154). You can also customize the element by changing the element's properties in the Properties pane — for details, see "Customizing Page Elements" on page 194. - 256 -
CHAPTER 10: Using Shape Widgets Using the Rectangle Widget The Rectangle Widget lets you add a Rectangle element to a page. You may want to use it to define a rectangular section of the page and then fill the rectangle with color, a linear gradient, or an image. You can change the element's appearance and its layout on the page. To place a Rectangle element on a page, drag the Rectangle widget from the Shapes section of the Widgets pane to the Canvas. You can then resize, align, and arrange the element to fit your page design (for details, see "Working in the Project Editor" on page 154). To customize the Rectangle element, select the element on the page or in the Page Outline pane, as shown in Figure 10-2 on page 257. The Properties pane for the element appears on the right side of the Project Editor with the following tabs: • The General tab lets you define the element's optional ID. For details, see "Changing General Properties" on page 197. • The Appearance tab lets you set the element's background, border, and opacity, and add a reflection and shadow to the element. For details, see "Changing Appearance Properties" on page 198. • The Layout tab lets you set the size of the element and its position on the page. You can also constrain the proportions of the element so that the aspect ratio stays the same when freely resizing it on the Canvas. For details, see "Changing Layout Properties" on page 214. • The Behavior tab lets you associate the Rectangle element with an event and an action to be performed.
