5ml User's Guide Using the Particles Widget The Particles widget lets you create a page element for animated particles. The Particles widget includes presets for falling leaves, rain, snow, confetti, stars, xmas-related particles, and you can create animation with custom particles. You can control the size of the particles, the speed of the animation, the animation's rotation about the X, Y, and Z axes, and the acceleration of the animation. To place the widget on a page and create a Particles element, drag the widget from the Effects & Animation section of the Widgets pane to the Canvas, as shown in Figure 12-20 on page 304. You can then resize, align, and arrange the element to fit your page design (for details, see "Working in the Project Editor" on page 154). You can change the type of animated particle in the Particles element by choosing the type in the Type drop-down menu in the General tab of the Particles Properties pane, as shown in Figure 12-21 on page 305. - 304 -

You can use your own custom particles by uploading the particle image(s) into the Assets library. For information about how to upload an image, see "Importing Images" on page 149. On the Particles Properties pane's General Tab, from the Type drop-down menu, choose Custom. Under the Type drop-down menu an image well appears. Drag and drop the custom particle image(s) from the Assets library into the image well, as shown in Figure 12-22 on page 306. (You can add one or more particle images. To remove an image, select the image and click on the bin icon.) When implementing custom particles you need to consider the image size and the image density (number of images). Also, consider how rendering the image size and density affects the mobile user experience and how the particles will render on a variety of mobile devices.
