Using the Text Area Widget
The Text Area widget lets you add a text entry field, to a page or form, similar to the Text Input widget, but with a larger
entry field that does not have a limit on the maximum number of characters you can enter. You can change the element's
appearance, including the text font family and size, text formatting within the element, character spacing, and the
element's layout on the page. You can also add prompt text to inform the user of the type of content to be entered. There
is no maximum number of characters limit for the text field.
To place a Text Area element on a page, drag the Text Area widget from the Common section of the Widgets pane to the
Canvas. You can then resize, align, and arrange the element to fit your page design (for details, see "Working in the
Project Editor" on page 154).
To customize the Text Area element, select the element on the page or in the Page Outline pane, as shown in Figure 9-6
on page 245. The Properties pane for the element appears on the right side of the Project Editor.
To enter the Name for the Text Area element, enter the name in the Name field in the General tab at the top of the
Properties pane, and to inform the user of the type of content to enter into the field, in the Prompt Text field, enter prompt
text; for example, enter Description.
You can customize the element by changing properties in the Properties pane:
• The General tab lets you define the element's name, optional ID, and prompt text. For details, see "Changing General
Properties" on page 197.
