<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> inbred progeny recurrent selection, but <strong>the</strong> responses for <strong>the</strong> self generation were similar<br />
to <strong>the</strong> populations per se. The results for grain yield, on a long-term basis, are not encouraging.<br />
BS16OO, for example, has a greater yield (47.1 q!ha) than BSl6C4 (44.9 q/ha), and <strong>the</strong> C4<br />
(44.9 q/ha) had significantly lower yield than <strong>the</strong> C2 (53.9 q/ha). O<strong>the</strong>r agronomic traits were<br />
considered in selection, and except for stalk lodging, <strong>the</strong> changes for <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r traits were in<br />
<strong>the</strong> desired direction (Table 6).<br />
It seems that inbred-progeny recurrent selection must be used with caution. Inbredprogeny<br />
recurrent selection was effective for increasing resistance to important pests, but <strong>the</strong><br />
