C. COnclusions<br />

Priority in grain corn research in Malaysia is given to breeding, particularly in <strong>the</strong><br />

development <strong>of</strong> inbred lines for hybrid formation. For grain corn to be competitive with<br />

o<strong>the</strong>r commodities, <strong>the</strong> yield needs to be increased to a high and consistent level. Present<br />

research in breeding is targeted towards that objective. once <strong>the</strong> relevant cultivars have been<br />

identified, fur<strong>the</strong>r yield increases can be effected through research in <strong>the</strong> agronomic aspects <strong>of</strong><br />

production, as well as in reduction <strong>of</strong> losses through IPM and efficient postharvest handling<br />
