Function: Community and Health ServicesSub Function: All inclusiveReporting Level Detail TotalOverview:Health and Community Servicesconsists of three sections:Municipal Health Services, DisasterManagement and HIV and AIDS.Description of the Activity: The function of provision ofvarious community and socialservices within the municipalityis administered as follows andincludes:Municipal Health Services whichinclude the following functions:Water Quality Monitoring - isconducted by EnvironmentalHealth Practitioners (EHP’s) in thedistrict by means of ensuring watersafety and accessibility in respectof a safe quality (microbiological,physical and chemical), promotingaccess to water for all communitiesby providing inputs toward theplanning, design and managementof the water supply system andensuring healthy community watersupplies through surveillance;ensuring monitoring of effectivewaste water treatment and waterpollution control and samplingand testing water in the field andexamining and analysing it in alaboratory as stipulated by theNational Health Act 61, 2003and the Scope of Profession ofEnvironmental Health.Part 02Food Control – Ensuring foodsafety in respect of acceptablemicrobiological and chemicalstandards, quality of all food forhuman consumption and optimalhygiene control throughout thefood supply chain from the point oforigin, all primary raw material orraw products production, up to thepoint of consumption as stipulatedby the Foodstuffs, Cosmetic andDisinfectant Act 54, 1972, NationalHealth Act 63, 2003 and the Scopeof Profession of EnvironmentalHealth.349
