General direction/supervision means employees receive general instructions usuallycovering only the broader aspects of the work. In some situations, detailed instruction may benecessary. The work of experienced and competent employees is subject to final checkingand, only as required, progress checking.Limited direction/supervision means employees receive limited instructions which clearlystate objectives. Employees have a significant degree of competence and experience and areable to achieve the objective by conforming to instructions but with minimal guidance.Broad direction/supervision means employees normally receive instructions in the form ofbroadly stated objectives. Extensive knowledge and experience enables employees tocontribute to the determination of goals and objectives.General supervision means a line management function and refers to the supervision givento professional/specialised and other staff. It consists of the allocation and direction, oversightand co-ordination of the work of subordinate staff.Professional supervision means a quality control function and refers to supervision given toanother staff member who requires the exercise of specialised/professional judgement.General professional guidance means direction and guidance given on a range ofprofessional assignments.
