Faculty specific requirementsa) Normally, candidates intended to register for the B. Ed (Pre- and Lower Primary) must have obtained a “C” or better in English asper the general admission requirements as well as a “D” in any other Namibian language and a “D” in Mathematics at the NSSCexamination.b) Candidates must show proof that they have been teaching in a specific phase in a school for two years, and is currently stillemployed in this Pre- or Lower Primary phase.c) The Faculty of Education reserves the right to interview students as well as require from them to write an admission test.Assessment and promotion requirementsModule assessment is based on continuous assessment by means of tutor-marked assignments, and a written examination at the end ofthe Module. You will be admitted to the examination if you have gained an average mark of at least 40% in the assignments. Tocomplete the Module successfully you should obtain a minimum mark of at least 40% in the examination, and a final mark of at least50%.Programme requirementsThe award of the degree is subject to satisfactory completion of all core, professional subjects, school content subjects and School BasedStudies (SBS) Phase 1, 2 and 3. In addition students will have to attend compulsory tutorials during SBS with identified lecturersthroughout their studies. Students further have to show professional conduct in class as well as in schools. Students will be required to do22 weeks in total SBS.Advancement rulesThe advancement rules will be in accordance with the approved general regulations of the University of Namibia as well as specificapproved Faculty regulations. A student advances to the following academic level of study when at least the required number of themodules of the curriculum for a specific year has been passed. If a student passed only 1/3 of the full curriculum of a specific year,he/she may not register for any modules on the following year. In all cases prerequisites for modules have to be passed before astudent can proceed to register for those modules that require prerequisites.End of first yearPass two-thirds of modules offered (equivalent to 96 credits) in the first year, in order to proceed to 2 nd year.End of second yearPass the remaining first year modules plus two-thirds of the year two modules (equivalent to 100 credits), in order to proceed to thirdyear.End of third yearPass the remaining second year modules plus at least two-thirds of the year three modules (equivalent to 96 credits) in order toproceed to fourth year.End of fourth yearPass in all outstanding modules equivalents in order to be awarded a degree. If at the end of the fourth year a student has not yetcompleted the required modules for the B. Ed (Pre- and Lower Primary) degree, he/she must do so within the next four years of studyon distance.Minimum requirements for re-admission into the facultyA student wishing to pursue his/her studies leading to the B. Ed (Pre- and Lower Primary) Degree will not be permitted to re-registerwith the Faculty of Education if he/she has not passed a minimum of module equivalents as indicated below. 2 modules (equivalent of 32 credits) by the end of the first year 4 modules (equivalent of 64 credits) by the end of the second year 8 modules (128 equivalent of credits) by the end of the third year 13 modules (equivalent of 208 credits) by the end of the fourth year 19 modules (equivalent of 304 credits) by the end of the fifth year 24 modules (equivalent of 384 credits) by the end of the sixth year130
