BACHELOR IN EDUCATION (ADULT EDUCATION)10BADENOTE: A new curriculum for the degree has been approved for implementation in 2014.AimThe aim of the degree is the production of personnel in adult education who will be able to occupy positions of responsibility relating tothe planning, organisation, management and monitoring of adult education programmes and projects.Programme overviewThe degree is a four year programme that will be offered on distance over a maximum of eight year period. This will allow externalstudents to concentrate on studying fewer modules and subjects each year. Its primary target audience is people who already holdpositions in different areas of adult education and related fields. It will prepare adult educators for management positions in differentareas of adult education and related areas. Students holding a Diploma in Adult Education or related field will be allowed to enter yeartwo of the degree.Admission requirementsTo qualify for entry to the external Bachelor of Education (Adult Education) degree you should meet the basic requirements for entranceto the undergraduate programmes of the University.a) A candidate must hold a valid Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate (NSSC) or any other equivalent qualification, and you shouldhave passed at least five subjects in no more than three examination sittings. You should also obtain a minimum of 25 points on theUniversity of Namibia Evaluation Scale.The University takes the following into consideration when computing your score:• the score is calculated by adding together the points of your five best subjects• English is counted as one of the five subjects• include any subject as one of the five subjects which is a prerequisite for entry to a specific Module, for exampleMathematicsEnglish is a compulsory subject and should be obtained at NSSC (English as a Second Language) grade C or at least grade D atNSSC (English First Language) level. The University will consider other school leaving certificates, after evaluation of thesecertificates.b) Mature people with experience, but without the formal school qualification may seek entry through the Mature Age Entry Scheme.See page 12 of this Prospectus for more information on the Mature Age Entry Scheme.c) A pass in the Diploma in Adult Education and Community Development from the University of Namibia.d) Other school leaving certificates may be accepted on their own merit as alternatives, and will be evaluated according to regulationG.9 (1) in the General Regulations.e) The University reserves the right to interview candidates before admission.Assessment and promotion requirementsModule assessment is based on continuous assessment by means of tutor-marked assignments, and a written examination at the end ofa module. You will be admitted to the examination if you have gained an average mark of at least 40% in the assignments.
