CERTIFICATE IN TAXATION AND MANAGEMENT12CMATIntroductionThe programme seeks to provide a foundation for students intending to pursue a career in taxation and management. The certificateprovides an interface between theory and current practices.AimThe main aim of the program is to provide an opportunity for those who otherwise do not qualify for admission into diploma programs inthe fields of taxation, management and other related fields.Programme overviewThe programme is a one-year certificate, but we recommend that students should complete it over a two-year period on distance. Thecertificate offers 9 modules. Two semester modules will be offered in the first semester and three semester modules in the secondsemester. Three modules will be offered over the first and second semester period.This programme is designed for those who want to pursue their career in accounting, auditing and tax related fields or who are already inemployment having job responsibilities that include tax administration, management or other related areas.Admission requirementsThese admission requirements should be read in conjunction with the General admission requirements in the General Information andRegulations Prospectus.To register for the certificate:• A candidate should be in possession of a grade 12 certificate, with a minimum of 17 points in five subjects on the UNAM pointscale including English with at least an E symbol,• Admission could also be considered for persons who qualify through the Mature Age Entry Scheme upon successfulcompletion of the relevant examinations as set out in the General Information and Regulations Prospectus.The Centre, in consultation with the Faculty of Economics and Management Science reserves the right to interview students beforeadmission.Assessment and promotion requirementsModule assessment is based on continuous assessment by means of a tutor-marked assignment, tests and a written examination at theend of each module. To complete a module successfully you should obtain a minimum mark of at least 40% in the examination, and afinal mark of at least 50%. The final mark is calculated according to a ratio of 50% continuous assessment mark and 50% examinationmark. You need to obtain at least 40% in your continuous assessment mark to be admitted to the examination. The continuousassessment will consist of tests and an assignment. The tests constitute 80% of the continuous assessment marks. A subminimum of40% applies must be obtained in the continuous assessment as well as the examinations.ArticulationSuccessful completion of the certificate allows entry into the Higher Diploma in Accounting and Auditing.
