To effect propertension, the 182 cm by 7.6 cm(6 feet by 3 in.) bolt and nutsneeded to be quite tight.Solution:The manufacturer packaged WatlowFIREROD ® bolt heaters with eachinjection molding machine. Correcttorque was achieved by sliding theheaters through the middle of thebolts and heating them to 95°C(200°F). This elongated the bolts byas much as 12.5 mm (0.5 in.). Whenthe nuts were turned tight and theheaters were removed, the boltscooled and shrank, tightening evenfurther.Customers now benefit during initialset up as well as reassembly whenthe molds are changed out at the<strong>com</strong>pletion of production runs.
