Therelays had to be replaced every250,000 cycles and each changerequired a two hour shutdown of theproduction line. The manufactureralso had to dispose of theenvironmentally hazardous mercuryfrom the failed contactors.Solution:To avoid these frequent shutdowns,Watlow E-SAFE ® RELAYs wereinstalled. E-SAFE RELAYs werepriced lower than the contactors,while also offering longer life.The E-SAFE RELAY provided highperformance in a non-mercuryoffering and eliminated the toxicwaste from failed mercurycontactors.After millions of cycles of operation,the customer informed Watlow thatthe E-SAFE RELAYs were stillperforming like new and had savedthem thousands of dollars inreplacement costs. In addition, hadthey continued to use the contactors,they would have experienced 24production shutdowns and 48 hoursof lost production time.362
