Please review theserespective charts and applicabledata to determine the correct wattdensity for your application.Correction Factors:Also note, these graphs depictFIRERODs used in steel parts. Therefore, for either stainless steelor aluminum and brass, refer toapplicable correction factors:aFor stainless steel, enter the graphwith a fit 0.04 mm (0.0015 in.)larger than actual.bFor aluminum and brass, enter thegraph with a temperature 38°C(100°F) above actual temperature.Heating MetalsThe Maximum Watt Density—Heating Metals chart will tell youeither the maximum hole fit orre<strong>com</strong>mended watt density of theheater. Enter the chart with eitherknown variable, part fit in holedimension or W/in 2 . Then find theapplication temperature by readingup or over on the chart. If the fit of the heater in the holedimension is not known, it is easilydetermined. Subtract the minimumdiameter of the FIREROD (nominaldiameter minus tolerance) from themaximum hole diameter. Forexample, take a hole diameter of0.500 minus a heater diameter of0.496 ±0.002 inch. The hole fitwould be 0.006 inch. For FIRERODheaters in square holes or grooves, contact your Watlow sales engineeror authorized distributor for the fit inhole dimension.HoleFitCartridge Heater0.1000.0900.0800.0700.0600.0500.0400.030Maximum Watt Density—Heating Metals0.020Fit in Hole—inches0.0100.0090.0080.0070.0060.00593°C (200°F)426°C (800°F)204°C (400°F)315°C (600°F)537°C (1000°F)648°C (1200°F)0.004760°C (1400°F)0.0030.0020.00110 20 30 40 50 60 70 80 100 200 300 400 500 600 800 1000Watt Density—W/in 272
