Its performance and nameare derived from Watlow’s exclusivemineral insulation—a material thathas much higher thermalconductivity than the mica andhard ceramic insulators used inconventional heaters.A thin layer of the “high” thermalconductive MI material is used toelectrically insulate the element wirefrom the inside diameter of theheater sheath. A thicker, “low”thermal conductivity layer backs upthe element wire, directing the heatinward towards the part that is beingheated.
