BETZA, Walter<br />
Walter Betza, 82, of Dacula, Ga., died Wednesday, October 11, 2006 at the VA Medical<br />
Center in Decatur, Ga. He was born June 17, 1924 in Smithmill, Pa. to Alexander and<br />
Mary Lazeration Betza. On September 2, 1950, he wed Veronica "Verna" (Sura) in<br />
Ramey, Pa. They formerly lived in Erie and moved to Dacula, Ga. in 2002. He retired<br />
from GE in 1980. Walter was a United States Army Veteran of WW II, serving with the<br />
211th AAF Base unit, where he received the EAME Ribbon, American Theatre Ribbon,<br />
and the WW II Victory Ribbon. He enjoyed hunting at his camp in Enterprise, Pa., and<br />
was a member of the American Legion Post 0251, Duluth, Ga., and life member of the<br />
VFW Post 3450, Philipsburg, Pa. He also was an avid bowler in the league at St. Peter<br />
and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church in Erie. He was preceded in death <strong>by</strong> brothers,<br />
Frank, John, Wasco, Steve, Boyd, and Joseph; and sisters, Helen, Anna, and Mary. In<br />
addition to his wife, he is survived <strong>by</strong> three daughters, Cathy (Tarkowski) (Christopher)<br />
Laughlin of Lawrenceville, Ga., Carol A. (Kenneth) Rider of Erie, and Mary S. (Richard)<br />
Nowakowski of Dacula, Ga., with whom he lived.; and his beloved grandchildren,<br />
Anthony, Brenda, Jennifer, and Justin; and great-grandchildren, Michael, Cassandra,<br />
Rickki, Anthony and Kaylee. Also surviving are one brother, George (Nancy) Betza of<br />
Erie; and sisters, Catherine Zonza, Cleveland, Ohio, and Christine Zelepsky of Erie;<br />
numerous nieces; nephews; grandnieces; grandnephews; cousins; and his Godchild,<br />
Lillian Plonski. Friends may call at the Carl A. Slomski & Son Funeral Home, Inc., 2101<br />
Ash, on Sunday 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and may attend a service at Sts.<br />
Peter & Paul Byzantine Church, Monday at 10 a.m. Burial will be private. Memorials<br />
