Elder Twp. Pedestrian Struck, Killed
PATTON - A 90-year-old Elder Township woman was killed Monday morning when she
was hit by a pickup while fetching her morning newspaper on Route 36 police said.
Anna Juba was on her way back across the road to her home when she was struck by the
northbound Ford pickup around 7:18 a.m. The collision sent her more than 80 feet from
the point of impact, investigators said. Hastings po1ice Chief Ronald Sharkey said an
investigation remains ongoing to determine the accident's cause.
A state police accident reconstruction unit from Indiana County processed the scene
Monday and was expected to check out the pickup as well, Sharkey said.
Juba was struck on a relatively straight section of Route 36, just north of Patton, he said.
There were no apparent skid marks. The highway is posted as a 45-mph zone, but its
unknown if speed was a factor at this point, Sharkey said.
A 46-year-old Philipsburg area man was behind the wheel of the pickup and was not
injured in the crash, investigators said.
Coroner Dennis Kwiatkowski said Juba was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:20 a.m. of
multiple traumatic injuries. Tribune-Democrat, Johnstown, PA, Dec 6, 2011
