BUNGO, Michael W.<br />
MADERA - Michael W. Bungo, 76, of Madera died at 3:07 a.m. Saturday, March 8,<br />
1997, at Centre Community Hospital, State College. Born May 18, 1920, in Madera, he<br />
was a son of the late Lewis and Eva (Koval) Bungo. Mr. Bungo retired as a crane<br />
operator for J & L Steel of Aliquippa. He served in the Army during World War II. He<br />
was a member of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Ramey. He is survived <strong>by</strong> two<br />
sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Steven (Mary) Guluschak of Ambridge, Mrs. Anthony<br />
(Ann) Moscolli and Peter Bungo, both of Madera, and John Bungo of Baden; and a<br />
number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death <strong>by</strong> his parents; and a brother,<br />
Frank. Divine Liturgy will be served at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic<br />
Church with the Very Rev. Fr. James E. Poorman as celebrant. Interment will be in St.<br />
Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.<br />
today and from 8-9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Kruise Funeral Home Inc., Madera. Parastas will<br />
be sung at 8 p.m. today at the funeral home with the Very Rev. Fr. Poorman. (The<br />

BUNGO, Michael ‘Mick’<br />
Sept. 17, 1921 - June 13, 2009<br />
Michael "Mick" Bungo, 87, Parkview Terrace, Altoona, formerly of Bellwood, died<br />
Saturday at UPMC Pres<strong>by</strong>terian Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born in Viola, son of the<br />
late Frank and Nancy (Latosky) Bungo. He married Martha A. Rossi July 11, 1945, at St.<br />
Joseph's Catholic Church, Bellwood. Surviving are his wife; two daughters: Beverly R.<br />
Houck and husband, Eric, of Altoona and Diane K. Pelter and husband, Glenn, of<br />
Bellwood; a son, Dennis M. and wife, Sara, of Hamilton, Ohio; four grandchildren: Justin<br />
and Travis Houck, Cliff Pelter and Anissa Withers; and five great-grandchildren: Olivia<br />
Houck, Jacob Peters, Micah Peters and Gabriel and Caleb Withers. He was preceded in<br />
death <strong>by</strong> a daughter, Agnes Ann in 1957; six sisters: Catherine Shumansky, Helen, Mary<br />
and Helena Bungo, Anna Zazworsky and Eva Tapchak; and four brothers: Metro,<br />
William, George and John. Mick retired as an automobile mechanic at the Bellwood<br />
Garage. He was a veteran of WWII, serving as a technical sergeant with the 8th Army Air<br />
Force 701st Bomb Squadron of the 445th Bomb <strong>Group</strong> in the European Theater. Mick<br />
was a member of the American Legion, Bellwood, and the VFW, Smithmill. He was a<br />
volunteer at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home and the Soldiers' Angels organization. He<br />
was active in the preparation of Memorial Day events in Bellwood and was an active<br />
participant with military honors groups for deceased veterans. He was an avid Pittsburgh<br />
Steelers and Pirates fan. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 17,<br />
2009, at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood, where a prayer repose will be held at<br />
7:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 18, 2009, at the funeral<br />
home <strong>by</strong> the Rev. Paul Bigelow. Committal with military honors will be held at Logan<br />
Valley Cemetery, Bellwood. Contributions in Mick's memory may be made to Soldiers'<br />
