Mrs. Mary Ferance, 84, Glen Gampbell R.D., died Dec. 1, 1966, in Miners Hospital in<br />

Spangler. Born June 14, 1882 in Austria, she was a daughter of Alex and Nancy Zinza.<br />

On Dec. 1, 25 years ago, she was preceded in death <strong>by</strong> her husband, Michael Ferance.<br />

She is survived <strong>by</strong> the following children: Fred, Barnesboro; Mrs. Mike (Kathryn)<br />

Lazeration, Barnesboro R.D.; Mitchell and George, of Glen Campbell R.D. 4, Mrs.<br />

Joseph (Susan) Kraynak, Glen Campbell; Mrs. John (Mary) Lazeration, Niagara Falls,<br />

N.Y.; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A son and a daughter preceded her<br />

in death. Friends are being received at the Pyott Funeral Home in Burnside where<br />

Parastas Services were conducted at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Divine Liturgy was conducted<br />

today at 10 a.m., from SS. Peter and Paul Greek Russian Orthodox Church in Urey.<br />

Interment will follow in the Greek Catholic Cemetery in Urey. (? Source)<br />

FERENCE, Michael Louis<br />

Michael Louis Ference, age 43, died Monday, Nov. 7, at 3 a.m. at his home in Meadville,<br />

Pa., where he had lived for 23 years. He was an employee of the Erie Railroad Company<br />

of that place, a veteran of World War II, and spent four years overseas. Surviving are his<br />

mother, Mrs. Mary Ferance, Glen Campbell, R.D., and the following brothers and sisters:<br />

Fred, Mrs. Michael Lazeration, and Mrs. Margaret Oship, all of Barnesboro; George,<br />

Mrs. Joseph Kraynak, and Mrs. John Lazeration, all of Glen Campbell; and Mitchell, at<br />

home. Services will be held Thursday morning, Nov. 10 at 9 a.m. in the St. Peter and<br />

Paul Church, Urey, Pa., with the Rev. Barnaba Lushko officiating. Burial will follow<br />

with military rites conducted <strong>by</strong> the V. F. W., Fee Pennington Post of Glen Campbell.<br />

Friends will be received at the home of his mother today at Glen Campbell, R.D., and<br />

until time of services. McCardell Funeral Home, Burnside in charge of arrangements.(?<br />

FERGUSON, Dr. R. Lawrence<br />

Neurosurgeon did 400 operations a year.<br />

The source of Dr. R. Lawrence Ferguson's boundless energy was a mystery to some, but<br />

its presence was undeniable to most of the people who had regular contact with the<br />

ballroom-dancing neurosurgeon, who also had a passion for writing poetry and fishing<br />

for salmon. "This was a guy who approached everything with the zeal of a late convert,"<br />

said Dr. Gerry Luken, Dr. Ferguson's medical practice partner for more than 25 years.<br />

And according to Roberta Ferguson, Dr. Ferguson's dance instructor wife, "He really<br />

believed in making the most of his time here." Dr. Ferguson, of Oak Park, died Sept. 27<br />

in Asheville, N.C., of complications from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, better known as<br />

Lou Gehrig's disease. He was 63. A neurosurgeon for more than 30 years, Dr. Ferguson<br />

practiced at Michael Reese Hospital, where he was head of the neurosurgery department,<br />

as well as Ingalls Hospital and Rush-Pres<strong>by</strong>terian-St. Luke's Medical Center. Born in<br />

Toronto, Dr. Ferguson distinguished himself in high school and college as a skilled,<br />

versatile athlete. In addition to qualifying for Canada's Olympic rowing team, he was<br />

tapped to play linebacker in the Canadian Football League, an opportunity Dr. Ferguson<br />

turned down to attend Queens University Medical School in Kingston, Ontario, his wife<br />

said. A residency at Cook County Hospital brought Dr. Ferguson to Chicago, where he<br />

specialized in treating aneurysms and strokes, Luken said. Though Dr. Ferguson<br />

performed more than 400 surgical procedures a year -- an unusually high amount for a
