1964 in St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Ramey, he married Gloria Jean<br />

(Warholic) Gmerek who survives of Philipsburg. Raymond is survived <strong>by</strong> four children;<br />

Raymond J. Gmerek, Jr, of Bellefonte; Bryan L. Gmerek and his wife Debbie of<br />

Woodland; Charles A. Gmerek of State College; and Rayleen M. Riley and her husband<br />

Steve of Osceola Mills. He is also survived <strong>by</strong> 5 grandchildren; Jessica Gmerek, Ryan<br />

Gmerek, Emily Gmerek, Erica Gmerek and Kian Riley. Raymond is survived <strong>by</strong> two<br />

sisters and a brother; Barbara Moore and her husband Don of State College; Dianna<br />

Kitko and her husband Andrew of Newport, MI; and Rev. Fr. Ronald Gmerek of Erie.<br />

Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, Raymond was<br />

preceded in death <strong>by</strong> a brother, Maxemilian Gmerek and a sister, Shirley Gmerek.<br />

Friends will be received on Friday, May 26, from 3-5 and 7-9 PM and on Saturday, May<br />

25 from 8-9 AM at the Kruise Funeral Home, Inc, Ramey, PA. Fr. Robert J. Kelly and Fr.<br />

Ronald Gmerek will concelebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, May 26, at<br />

10:00 AM in Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Philipsburg. Interment will follow in Sts.<br />

Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery, Philipsburg. Condolences may be sent to:<br />

GONDER, George<br />

Smithmill – George Gonder of 103 Brookfield Ave., Masury, Ohio, died at 2:30 a.m.<br />

Friday in the Sharon General Hospital following a short illness. He was a former resident<br />

of Smithmill. He was born in the Ukraine May 10, 1878, a son of Theodore and Marie<br />

(Pliszka) Gonder and was a retired coal miner. He moved to Masury from Smithmill four<br />

years ago. His wife, the former Marie Wasylko, died in 1937. He is survived <strong>by</strong> nine sons<br />

and three daughters: Nick, Bellwood; Frank, Tyrone; Metro, New Kensington; Sam and<br />

Michael, Hubbard, Ohio; Andrew and Wasco, Masury, Ohio; George Jr., Fowler, Ohio;<br />

John, Denver, Colo.; Mrs. Margaret Johnson, Hubbard, Ohio; Mrs. Mary Chomos,<br />

Masury, Ohio; and Mrs. Eva Landgoss, West Virginia. He also leaves 23 grandchildren<br />

and 23 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. from St.<br />

Valadimar’s Orthodox Church in Smithmill. Interment will follow in the church cemetery<br />

at Ramey. Friends may call at the Buranovosky Funeral Home in Ramey from 7 to 9 p.m.<br />

GONDER, Samuel, Sr.<br />

Hubbard—Samuel Gonder Sr., 84, died Monday morning, Jan. 1, 2007 at his residence.<br />

He was born Aug. 28, 1922 in Smithmill, Pa., a son of George and Mary Wasylko<br />

Gonder, and lived in Hubbard for more than 60 years. Mr. Gonder worked at GATX in<br />

Masury for 30 years, retiring in 1970. He was a member of St. Patrick Church in Hubbard<br />

and VFW Hubbard Post No. 3767. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, having served<br />

during WWII. Sam enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and canning peppers. His wife,<br />

the former Edith Angelo, whom he married in 1944, died Dec. 12, 2003. He leaves two<br />

sons, Samuel (Marianne) Gonder Jr. and David (Cathy) Gonder, both of Hubbard; a<br />

daughter, Mary Jane (Gary) Dattilo of Hubbard; two brothers, Andrew Gonder of Masury<br />

and Frank Gonder of Tyrone, Pa.; two sisters, Mary Chomas of Masury and Peg Johnson<br />

of Florida; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Besides his wife he was<br />

preceded in death <strong>by</strong> his parents; a son, Edward Gonder; six brothers, Mike, George,<br />

John, Wasko, Metro and Nick; and three sisters, Anna, Eva and Helen. Friends and
