BARNEY-- On Friday, September 22, in her home in Clymer, Mrs. Nancy Barney. She<br />
was born in Austria, November 22, 1888. She leaves her husband Wasko Barney and<br />
these children: Mrs. Helen Hartman and Frank Barney, both of Cleveland; Michael<br />
Barney of Warren, Ohio; and Mary, George and Charles Barney at home. Funeral<br />
services were held Monday <strong>by</strong> the Rev. Basil Kurutz, pastor of the Clymer Greek<br />
Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. (Anastazia (Legdan)Barney, Barney<br />
surname was originally Nedvid).<br />
BARNEY [NEDVID], Wasco<br />
WASCO BARNEY NEDVID, age 82, of Clymer passed away Sunday morning at 2<br />
o'clock in St. Joseph's Hospital, Warren, Ohio. Born December 10, 1878 in Austria, the<br />
deceased was a member of St. Michael's Greek Catholic Church, Clymer. He is survived<br />
<strong>by</strong> the following children: Mrs. Arnold (Helen) Hartman, Mrs. Mary Kephart, and Frank,<br />
all of Cleveland, O.; Michael and Charles, both of Warren, O.; George, U.S. Navy.<br />
There are 13 grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Bence Funeral Home, Clymer,<br />
until 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, when a brief prayer service will be held there, followed <strong>by</strong> a<br />
Requiem Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Michael's Church, Clymer. The Very Rev. Father<br />
Andrew J. Kertis will be the celebrant and interment will follow in St. Michael's<br />
Cemetery. Parastas service will be held in the Funeral Home at 7 p.m. Monday. (Indiana<br />

BASARAB, George<br />
BALTIMORE - George Basarab, 75, of Baltimore, Md., and formerly of Madera, died<br />
yesterday morning at the Church Home Hospital in Baltimore. Born April 5, 1912, in<br />
Madera, he was a son of the late Onuphrey (Frank) and Mary (Kypochick) Basarab. Mr.<br />
Basarab is survived <strong>by</strong> the following brothers and sisters: Stephen of Baltimore; Michael<br />
of Philipsburg; Mrs. Anna Kochan of Ramey; Mrs. Kathryn Lumanick of Ponce Inlet,<br />
Fla., John of San Diego, Calif.; Mrs. Theodore (Mary) Marks of Guilford, N.Y.; Mrs.<br />
Michael (Susan) Warholic of Beccaria; Andrew Fenchak of Madera; Paul Fenchak of<br />
Baltimore; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Basarab retired in Washington,<br />
D.C., as a security guard. He was Ukranian Catholic <strong>by</strong> faith and was a collector of books<br />
all his life. Divine Liturgy will be said Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Ukranian<br />
Catholic Church, Ramey, with the Rev. James E. Poorman as celebrant. Interment will<br />
take place in the church cemetery. (written in 1987).<br />
BASARAB, Dr. John<br />
Dr. John Basarab passed away on February 9, 2012 at Lancaster General Hospital after a<br />
long illness. He was 92 years old. John was born in Madera, Pennsylvania on December<br />
21, 1919, the sixth child of the late Frank (Onufer) Basarab and Mary (Maria) Kopichak<br />
Basarab. He graduated from Bigler Township High School in 1938 earning a scholarship<br />
to what was then called the Pennsylvania State College. He graduated from Penn State in<br />
1942 with a degree in Education. He earned membership in Pi Gamma Mu, the National<br />
Social Science Honor Society. John served in the US Army from 1942-1946 with the<br />
972nd Signal Service Battalion in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations. He was<br />
awarded the American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct<br />
Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal. While in the Army he met the love of his
