Herbert Hawkins, 82, of Glen Hope, passed away at 9:24 AM, Wednesday, September<br />

28, 2011 at his residence. He was born on Jan. 2, 1929, in Madera a son of the late Edwin<br />

and Edith Mae (Wertz) Hawkins. Herb served in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman 2nd Class in<br />

WW II and was a 1950 graduate of the former Bigler Twp. High School. He retired as a<br />

surveyor for the PA Department of Transportation. Herb was a member and past Master<br />

of the Osceola Mills Masonic Lodge #515, he also was a member of the John Branic<br />

V.F.W. Post 8822 and the Freeberg American Legion Post 591, Houtzdale. Herb was<br />

Democratic Chairman of the Glen Hope Boro. He served on and past president the Glen<br />

Hope Boro Council and was past president of Glen Hope Water Company. On Feb. 9,<br />

1951 in Winchester, VA he married Annie Holobinko Hawkins who survives of Glen<br />

Hope, he is also survived <strong>by</strong> seven children; Jean Bevevino and her husband Mark of<br />

Algonquin, IL; Mary Elizabeth LeGrand and her husband George of Philipsburg; Herbert<br />

Hawkins, Jr and his wife Tina of Morrisdale; Patricia Jenkins and her husband Jeff of<br />

Coalport; James Hawkins and his wife Lisa of Glen Hope; Sally Riegel and her husband<br />

William of Glen Hope; and John Hawkins and his wife Susan of Gibsonia. He is survived<br />

<strong>by</strong> 22 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Herb is survived <strong>by</strong> a sister and two<br />

brothers, Margaret McKeehen and her husband John of Carlisle; Edward Hawkins of<br />

Wilmington, NC; and Gerald Hawkins who made his home with Herb and Annie for the<br />

past 28 years. A number of nieces and nephews also survive. Herb was preceded in death<br />

<strong>by</strong> his parents; a sister, Agnes Dotts; and 8 brothers, William, Herman, Lee, Harry,<br />

Richard, Norman, James and Thomas. Herb loved hunting, gardening, animals and<br />

music . He extremely loved his wife, his brother, Gerald, children and grandchildren and<br />

all the family times. Herb fought a long battle with heart and kidney disease. Friends will<br />

be received on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM and on Saturday, from 9-11 AM at the Kruise<br />

Funeral Home, Inc Madera. A Masonic Memorial service will be held on Friday in the<br />

funeral home. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 11:00 AM in the<br />

Kruise Funeral Home, Inc, Madera with Rev. Robert Ford officiating. Interment will<br />

follow in the Umbria Cemetery, Osceola Mills. Herb's family request memorial donations<br />

be made to the Mo Valley Black & White Mat Club C/O Louis Jaco<strong>by</strong> 475 Fernwood Rd<br />

HAYWARD, Mary (Tokarchick)<br />

Houtzdale – Mary Hayward, 68, of Houtzdale R.D. at Clear Haven Nursing Center<br />

Sunday, Sept. 4. Born in Parsonville Aug. 6, 1915, she was a daughter of John and<br />

Maggie (Lashinsky) Tokarchick. She was married to Raymond Hayward, who preceded<br />

her in death Dec. 18, 1981. Also preceding her in death were her parents, one brother and<br />

one sister. Mrs. Hayward is survived <strong>by</strong> a son, Raymond J., and two grandchildren, Amy<br />

and Cory, all of Clearfield; a brother, Alex Tokarchick of Houtzdale, and two sisters,<br />

Mrs. Peter (Eva) Yazwinski of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Mrs. Willard (Nancy) Martin of<br />

Connecticut. Services will be held at the Birger A. Freeburg Funeral Home in Houtzdale<br />

tomorrow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. W. Dean Krause officiating. Interment will be in the<br />

IOOF Cemetery in Brisbin. Friends will be received at the funeral home today and<br />
