movies are entertaining but not very realistic. I watch movies and television<br />

to escape from the reality of everyday life and that is fine as long as it<br />

isn't done too much.<strong>The</strong> so called reality shows are not reality at all<br />

as they are still staged to a certain degree. <strong>The</strong> only reality T.V. there is<br />

would be watching the news footage of the California fires and that is not very<br />

much fun to me.I agree with whoever said the statue of Rocky that was in<br />

public was an insult to Joe Frazier. But it also was an insult to the many other<br />

fine Philly boxers that have toiled down through the years in that fine fight<br />

town.<strong>Jerry</strong> would have chopped down Bugner. Mr. Jimmy said <strong>Jerry</strong> sparred<br />

with Bugner while in England and had his way with him.|<br />

mentioned fighters from Philidelphia. If my memory serves me correct, wasn't the<br />

1970s middleweight Benny Briscoe (who fought the great Carlos Monzon) from<br />

there. I think Briscoe might have had Philipdelphia as part of his nickname. I<br />

don't think there should be any doubt that <strong>Jerry</strong> <strong>Quarry</strong> would beat Bugner. I<br />

agree with RS that it would be a decision, given that Bugner survived against<br />

Ali and Frazier. Also, I am embarrassed to admit that back in the 1970s I used<br />

to watch the first Rocky movie before I played football to psych me up. <strong>The</strong><br />

whole team used to. With the benefit of hindsight, it is now clear that we were<br />

a team of imbeciles. |<br />

harmless ! Hemanaged to hurt Frazier in that tenth round and he did pretty<br />

well in the first Ali fight.Who begins well is in the middle of the<br />

in with a an undefeated top ranked heavyweight in which he was the underdog and<br />

won. Who did he ever beat when they were in thier prime. Bugner wasn't in<br />

<strong>Quarry</strong>'s class. When did he ever have the Garden rockin for him like <strong>Jerry</strong> did.<br />

No Contest <strong>Jerry</strong> would smoke him.<strong>The</strong> 70's were the golden age of Philly<br />

middleweights. Bad Bennie Briscoe fought the great Monzon to a draw in Monzon's<br />

back yard. What does that tell you. Bobby Boogalo Watts and Willie the Worm<br />

Monroe both beat Marvin hagler. Cyclone Hart was on a fast Track to a title<br />

until he fell out of the ring against Denny Moyer at the Spectrum and was never<br />

right after that. Max Hord didn't you have a good career as a<br />

middleweight back in the day?|<br />

Boxing is supposed to be about "hitting without getting hit." Joe<br />

Frazier took it a little far one way, Joe Bugner the other. Bugner lacked the<br />

destructive instinct of Frazier or Foreman as well. Perhaps a clone/mix of the<br />

two would be the perfect fighter? :-)He was TKOd by Shavers, but then<br />

the night <strong>Quarry</strong> beat Shavers, JQ was well aware that he was one landed Shavers<br />

punch away from the result being reversed. Anyone is with a bomber like Earnie.<br />

Bugner was four inches taller than <strong>Quarry</strong>, about twenty pounds heavier,<br />

had a decent chin, and was dedicated to survival, something he did well,<br />

emerging relatively unscathed from losses to both Ali (twice) and Frazier. He<br />

was probably a little faster than <strong>Jerry</strong>, but didn't hit as hard. JQ could always<br />

have caught him of course, but I suspect it would instead have been a long and<br />

relatively uninspired night of patiently chopping Bunger down slowly like a big<br />

tree, winning finally by decision.|<br />

would have beaten Bugner by a convincing decision. <strong>Quarry</strong> deserves a position<br />

above Bugner in heavyweight history, but this doesn't change that Bugner was 3
